CONSTRUCTION
TECHNOLOGY
This program provides an overview of the construction industry
by presenting information in several related areas. Students will
begin the program in construction safety. Following this
introduction, framing/foundations will be taught. Students will
learn to frame residential buildings using accepted framing
techniques; such as framing floor systems, interior and exterior
walls, ceilings, roofs and stairs. Various types of foundations
and the advantages and disadvantages of each are covered.
Students will also learn how to install different roofing and
siding materials plus learn to finish the interior of a residential
building. This includes the materials, installation practices and
material takeoff to do the finish carpentry for a house, including
windows, doors, base, chair rail, wood floors, stairs, simple builtins and cabinets. If college level work is attained, student may
earn up to 14 LCC credits.

Install various roofing and siding materials on both new and remodeled structures.
Identify local suppliers and installers for the various types of roofing and siding materials.
Identify tree species used to create hardwood flooring.
Secure wood flooring to a plywood subfloor.
Describe two methods for applying wood flooring to a concrete subfloor.
Describe the basic method for layout sheet vinyl flooring.
Identify different types of molding and trim.
Identify the five basic kitchen layouts.
Explain how to install a base cabinet & a wall cabinet.

HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE CREDIT

The primary focus of the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center is to enhance a students high
school curriculum by providing an opportunity to learn a technical trade and/or to obtain a
head start on a post-secondary education.
All students completing an Eaton RESA Career Center program at Lansing Community College
have the opportunity to earn either direct or articulated college credit while completing their
high school program if specific criteria are met.
LCC credit is awarded to a student who: a) completes the high school career and technical
education course with a minimum of a C average; b) meets the performance objectives for a
specific Lansing Community College course; and, c) passes the college course final
examinations, if one is required. These credits are shown as numerical grades on the students
LCC transcript. Transcripts may be requested through Lansing Community College Enrollment
Services Department by August following course completion.
The courses listed below show the possible LCC college credits that may be available to high
school students taking an Eaton RESA Career Preparation Program.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
DCTM 102

Construction Safety

2 LCC Credits

This course covers safety in the industrial workplace and on construction worksites. Included are local,
state and federal safety regulations. The focus will be on the prevention of accidents but will teach the
correct response if an accident should occur. First aid, CPR/AED certificates will be issued upon
successful completion.

BLDT 121

Residential Framing

4 LCC Credits

Students will learn to frame residential buildings using accepted framing techniques; such as framing
member spacing, framing floor systems, interior and exterior walls, ceilings, roofs and stairs. Various
types of foundations and the advantages and disadvantages of each are covered. Hands-on methods
are used.

BLDT 125

Roofing and Siding

Minimum 2.0 in BLDT 121

4 LCC Credits

Students will learn how to install different roofing and siding materials. This course covers analysis,
design, estimating, problem solving, building practices, materials, and installation methods for roofing
and exterior wall covering projects.

BLDT 126

Interior Carpentry

Minimum 1.0 in BLDT 121

4 LCC Credits

Students will learn to finish the interior of a residential building. This course covers the materials,
installation practices and material takeoff to do the finish carpentry for a house to include windows,
doors, base, chair rail, wood floors, stairs, simple built-ins and cabinets.
