FRC TEAM 2408
Shrapnel Sergeants
1
The coaches and mentors of Team 2408, the Shrapnel Sergeants of Hazelwood
West High School, enthusiastically nominate Mashroor Rashid for the Dean’s List
Award. Mashroor, a junior and four year team member, hit the ground running when he joined this high school based team as an 8th grader. He immediately became an integral part of the mechanical design team for both our FTC and FRC teams. He did not hesitate to do whatever was asked of him and quickly demonstrated a natural ability as a problem solver. Mashroor always goes above and beyond what is asked
or expected. He doesn’t allow adversity to slow him down; he uses it as fuel to surge
forward, creating a bright future for himself and others around him. As Mashroor has progressed through his years on the team he has taken on increasing responsibilities with both the FTC and FRC team. This year he is one of the
team’s co
-captains, a well desired honor. This has been a challenging position this year because the team lost their coach from last year and went through a number of temporary coaches before a good full time coach was identified and engaged. The student leadership essentially took over in this time frame and did an excellent job in all areas of keeping the team moving forward. This included organizing the returning team members, recruiting a significant number of new team members and training/mentoring these new team members. The team leaders led the team through the FTC build season and they successfully competed in two Missouri FTC qualifier events. Mashroor was instrumental in leading the team though these activities and showed an outstanding ability of getting people to work together effectively. These excellent leadership and mentoring activities continued throughout the FRC build season. Mashroor essentially served as the student chief engineer and was given the responsibility of guiding our mechanical design and build team in addition to his team leadership responsibilities. Our team focuses on a student lead design effort
and Mashroor played a very important role in this year’s successful robot design and
build activities.
