Student Engagement Core

The chart below represents competencies that students gain through interactions with the programs, services and offices
within the Division of Student Affairs at NYIT. These competencies build on one another and increase in complexity from left
to right (successful skill development for the competencies on the right are dependent upon successful development of earlier
ones on the left).


Definitions of Competency Categories
Competency: A skill that one can apply with some aptitude and that one strives to master.
Foundational Competencies: Personal attributes one develops within themselves.
Professional Competencies: Attributes that manifest a professional persona and abilities/skills.
NYIT Community Connections: Ones sense of connection to his/her campus and NYIT overall.
Global Citizenship Competencies: Skills that one gains to understand oneself in relation to the larger community.
