Title of Lesson: 100 Acts of Kindness

The goal of this lesson is for students to build social skills by
saying kind things to other students in the classroom.

INSTRUCTION AND ACTIVITIES:


Introduction:
Ask the students if they have ever heard the golden rule
before, have several students share their ideas. Explain to
the students that treat others the way you want to be
treated is what we often call the golden rule.
Development

Introduce and read the story Do Unto Utters by Laurie


Keller.
After the story is complete ask the students to list the
things that make them feel unappreciated or bad about
themselves.
Write the ideas on the Smart Board.
Ask the students to return to their seats with their piece of

Have the students trace just one of their hands, put their
name on it, and then cut it out.
Once everyone has completed this step have them move
around the room and write kind things on other students
hands. The students should try to think of specific things
that the other student has done for them in the past on just
one of the fingers.
The students must write on at least five students hands
and continue the process until every students hand is filled.
Each finger on the students hands must have something
nice on it.

Have the students return to their seats and read what their
friends have written about them.
Ask for a couple volunteers to share their ideas.
When the hands are complete have each student tape their
name to the 100 Acts of Kindness Poster.
LESSON MODIFICATIONS
For students with lower levels of understanding- have them only use three kind
acts for other students.
For students with higher levels of understanding- ask them to write on as many
hands as possible.
