Mukherjee-Das, Mou. Communications and technology in Society. Global media journal: India
edition. June 2014, Vol. 5 issue 1, pg.1-10.
In this article the author states that technology has become a massive part of our everyday
lives in how we communicate and get information. This article shows that society over time
has started to rely and trust technology more and more over the years. Communication is a
key part in the power of a country, so when important information is falsified through social
media it can become an issue for the society because of the trust that has been put in to it.
The author does a great job of showing the importance of communication in society which
directly correlateds with my topic. The source is credible and has lots of good information for
my paper.
Amy Mitchell and Emily Guskin. Twitter News Consumers: Young, mobile and educated. Aug.Sept. 2013.
Roughly 8 percent of U.S. adults receive news through Twitter and social media. That is a
low number, but that 8 percent is more than likely the fraction of the population that believes

everything they see on Twitter, ultimately creating a problem for news communication to the
public. The author states three characteristics of news on Twitter, relays breaking news, is
often distorted, and has no opinion to the public. Facts and studies show that news on social
media is, for the most part, unreliable and should not be taken seriously until digging further
to find the real news. This a good source for displaying numbers and visuals for just how
many people use social media for news and information. The author does a good job of
representing statistical information making it easier to put in prospective just how many
people use social media. This article will add facts and numbers to the final paper making it
more credible.
Elizabeth Perse. Media Effects and Society. Lawrence Erlbaum Associates,Inc. Publishers. 2001.
This a good source and shows many facts relating to sociology studies. The author uses many
credible sources and the author herself is credile. In this book the author takes the effects of
media on society and looks at them from all aspects, in a scientific perspective. She talks
about all kinds of studies that doctors have conducted since the media age made its
appearance. There are also lots of sources within her book that will lead me to more detailed
and define articles about my topic. Overall the author does a great job of connecting how the
brain works and how society behaves to show just how media can play a factor in our
everyday lives. The book also talks about how big of a factor media plays in our political
views when it comes around the time to vote, which I will incorporate into my paper to add
another example of medias negative effects.
Paul DiMaggio, Eszter Hargittai, W. Russell Neuman and John P. Robinson. Social Implications
of Technology. Annual Review of Sociology; Vol. 27 (2001), pp. 307-336.
In this article, the authors focus is to show just how many online users there are, and how it
has been steadily increasing and developing in the last 20 years. It also talks about just how

much information is on the internet and how society uses it to find just about anything they
need. The authors attack the article in a non-biased way, showing positive effects as well.
Benefits of technology and the internet is just as important as the negative effects. This
article describes both positve and negative benefits, and I intend to use the postive effects to
support a potential back-up argument. The source is very credible and has many
recommendable sources within. There are also many other aspects of the media in this paper
that I would be able to tie into my general topic for more support.
Joshua Meyrowitz. No Sense of Place: The impact of electronic media on social behavior.
Oxford University Press, Mar 14, 1985
This source will be good for my paper because the author is looking at the topic very
similarly to how I am. He talks about how the effects of media are often undermined because
of the amount of trust we have in technology. The author uses examples from several
sociology studies portreying the effects of media, and they seem to all be trying to reach the
same question; how does society respond to the stimulus(media). The author points out an
important fact about media; there is always a message lying within. In my paper Im trying to
get the reader to understand that most effects of media are often unseen because of the trust
we have in it and that it is very sublimal and meant to not be obvious.
