Bees Many Uses!
Bees are without a doubt vital for our environment. Although, they go far more than our
agricultural needs, bees are immensely versatile. Their beeswax alone has many uses and their
honey can go a long way besides being a delicious topping. Bees abilities go farther than
pollinating our plants, they can produce versatile beeswax and the honey they make is full of
benefits.
Beeswax is an underrated perk bees have to offer, manipulated in the right way it can
provide many uses for the consumer. From the very earliest of times beeswax has been used in
various parts of the world. (Morse) According to the article Beeswax: History and Use, the
Morse states We usually think of honey as the most important product from the beehive, but
historically beeswax has played an equally important role. In the beginning the main use of
beeswax was candles and properly made candles are the finest. Beeswax releases negative ions
when it burns. Pollen, dust, dirt, pollutants, and any other negative air pollution all carries a
positive charge, and that is how they can be suspended in the air. The negative ions released from
burning beeswax negate the positive charge of air contaminants, and the neutralized ions are
sucked back into the burning candle or fall to the ground. (Morse) Beeswax candles clean the air
and reduce indoor pollutants, they can effectively reduce asthma, allergies, and hay fevers.
Recently, a main use of beeswax is now in cosmetics. It is currently used in cold creams,

lipstick, hairsprays and various other beauty products. Although beeswax is a popular ingredient
now in our society around two thousand years ago it was also a famous mixture for Greeks!
(Morse) Beeswax has many great virtues and opportunities if molded into the right substance.
Honeybees are the only bees that have the ability to make honey. They use nectar thats
been collected from flowers to make honey, nectar is almost 80% water with some complex
sugars. Honey is chockfull of benefits. Honey is packed with vitamins and minerals like
calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium. It is naturally hydrating, helping to lock moisture into
your skin; it has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, so its great to use on problem
areas on your skin. (Burlando and Conrara) One of the simplest blemish treatments come from
honey. Besides skin problems honey is fantastic for softening skin since it is a humectant. It
pulls the moister from the air and bind to it which makes a great addition to hand and face
creams. (Burlando and Conrara) The benefits of honey go farther than skin deep. Internally
honey is full of benefits! Whenever that person ingest locally organic honey they eat a small
amount of pollen a long with it. People with severe allergies eat honey as a type of
desensitization technique. (Burlando and Conrara)
Beauty and allergy wise honey is amazing fortunately honey stretches far beyond that.
According to Majtan, Majtan states, Honey is a popular natural product that is used in the
treatment of burns and a broad-spectrum of injuries. Recently the use of honey in wound
healing has taken off! The antibacterial properties honey possess has been considered the main
criterion for its wound healing abilities. (Majtan) In recent studies, honey has been used
effectively in clinical trials for the treatment of ulcers extending to the bone, as well as for first,
second and third degree burns. Complete healing has been reported without the need for skin
grafts and with no infection or muscle loss. (Majtan) It can be applied straight on the affected

area, covered with a sterile bandage, and changed daily. When the wounds are clean, honey acts
as a healer. This also is the same procedure for infected wounds. As the healing process goes, it
painlessly removes pus, scabs and dead tissue from wounds and stimulates new tissue growth!
Bees provide many other attributes other than pollinating our plants. Bees have copious
amounts of opportunities to offer our world. Their abilities stretch from making versatile
beeswax to producing honey that offers more to us than being a topping!

Honey and Olive Oil
Olive oil can create a big difference in moisture after just a few uses, and promotes a healthy
scalp and hair roots. It also helps smooth and coat dry and damaged hair shafts.
-1/2 cup of honey
-1/4 cup of olive oil
Directions
Mix together cup of honey and cup of olive oil, warming the mixture slightly if you need to.
Apply to hair as needed.
Healing wounds: Clean the affected area, directly apply honey onto the wound. Repeat this
process daily until the wound is healed.
Fixing blemishes: Take a bit of salt mixed with a few drops of water and spread it on a bandage.
Place this over the blemish for a few hours. The salt will soften the top of the blemish causing it
to break open. (If it doesnt open up after a few hours, redo the bandage and leave it on a bit
longer.) Then wash it off and gently pat dry. Next, apply a bit of honey to a dry bandage and
