God of Grace and God of Glory

Good Christian Friends Rejoice

God of grace and God of glory,

On Thy people pour Thy power.
Crown Thine ancient churchs story,
Bring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the facing of this hour,
For the facing of this hour.

Good Christian friends, rejoice with

heart and soul, and voice;
Give ye heed to what we say: News!
News! Jesus Christ is born today;
Ox and ass before Him bow; and He is
in the manger now.
Christ is born today! Christ is born
today!

Lo! the hosts of evil round us,

Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways.
From the fears that long have bound us,
Free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the living of these days,
For the living of these days.
Cure Thy childrens warring madness,
Bend our pride to Thy control.
Shame our wanton selfish gladness,
Rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
Lest we miss Thy kingdoms goal,
Lest we miss Thy kingdoms goal.
Set our feet on lofty places,
Gird our lives that they may be,
Armored with all Christ-like graces,
In the fight to set all free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
That we fail not them nor Thee,
That we fail not them nor Thee.
Save us from weak resignation,
To the evils we deplore.
Let the search for Thy salvation,
Be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
Serving Thee Whom we adore,
Serving Thee Whom we adore.

Good Christian friends, rejoice, with

heart and soul and voice;
Now ye hear of endless bliss: Joy! Joy!
Jesus Christ was born for this!
He has opened the heavenly door, and
man is blest forevermore.
Christ was born for this! Christ was born
for this!
Good Christian friends, rejoice, with
heart and soul and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave: Peace!
Peace! Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all, to gain
His everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save! Christ was born
to save!

God of Our Parents

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

God of our parents, whose almighty

hand
Leads forth in beauty all the starry band
Of shining worlds in splendor through
the skies
Our grateful songs before Thy throne
arise.

Hark, how all the welkin rings,

Glory to the King of kings;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!

Thy love divine hath led us in the past,

In this free land by Thee our lot is cast,
Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and
Stay,
Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen
way.
From wars alarms, from deadly
pestilence,
Be Thy strong arm our ever sure
defense;
Thy true religion in our hearts increase,
Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in
peace.
Refresh Thy people on their toilsome
way,
Lead us from night to never ending day;
Fill all our lives with love and grace
divine,
And glory, laud, and praise be ever
Thine.

Joyful, all ye nations, rise,

Join the triumph of the skies;
Universal nature say,
Christ the Lord is born to-day!
Christ, by highest Heaven adord,
Christ, the everlasting Lord:
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a Virgins womb!
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate deity!
Pleased as all with all to appear,
Jesus! Our Immanuel here!
Hail, the heavenly Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings.
Mild He lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the ones of earth;
Born to give them second birth.

Rise Up O Lambs of God

Dear Lord and Father of All Kind

Rise up, O lambs of God!

Have done with lesser things.
Give heart and mind and soul and
strength
To serve the King of kings.

Dear Lord and Father of all kind,

Forgive our foolish ways;
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

Rise up, O lambs of God!

The kingdom tarries long.
Bring in the day of unity
And end the night of wrong.

In simple trust like theirs who heard,

Beside the Syrian sea,
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow Thee.

Rise up, O lambs of God!

The church for you doth wait,
Her strength unequal to her task;
Rise up and make her great!
Lift high the cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod.
As children of the Son of Man,
Rise up, O men of God!

O Sabbath rest by Galilee,

O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with Thee
The silence of eternity,
Interpreted by love!
With that deep hush subduing all
Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of Thy call,
As noiseless let Thy blessing fall
As fell Thy manna down.
Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.
Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and
fire,
O still, small voice of calm.

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Be Thou My Vision

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of

glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive
the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with
the light of day!

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that Thou
art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by
night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my
light.

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,

earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain call us
to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving, ever
blessing, ever blessed,
Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean
depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, all
who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other, lift us
to the joy divine.
Mortals, join the happy chorus, which
the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning oer us, chirstian
love binds heart to heart.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors
in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward in the
triumph song of life.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true

Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me,
Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true child;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee
one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the
fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my souls Shelter, Thou my high
Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of
my power.
Riches I heed not, nor their empty
praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure
Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heavens joys, O bright
Heavens Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we

see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the
silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the
everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are
met in thee tonight.

It came upon the midnight clear,

That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold;
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From Heavens all gracious King.
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered

all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars together, proclaim the
holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King, and
peace to all on earth!

Still through the cloven skies they come

With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats
Oer all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever over its Babel sounds
The blessd angels sing.

How silently, how silently, the wondrous

Gift is givn;
So God imparts to human hearts the
blessings of His Heavn.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this
world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still,
the dear Christ enters in.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife

The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And we, when were at war, hear not
The love-song which they bring;
O hush the noise, ye men of strife
And hear the angels sing.

Where children pure and happy pray to

the blessd Child,
Where misery cries out to Thee, Son of
the mother mild;
Where charity stands watching and faith
holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
and Christmas comes once more.

And ye, beneath lifes crushing load,

Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing!

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to

us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in
us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great
glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord
Emmanuel!

For lo! the days are hastening on,

By prophet-bards foretold,
When with the ever circling years
Comes round the age of gold;
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world send back the song
Which now the angels sing.

Christ the Lord is Risen Today

Faith of Our Parents

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!

Earth and heaven in chorus say,
Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high,
Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavns, and earth, reply,
Alleluia!

Faith of our Parents, living still,

In spite of dungeon, fire and sword;
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whenever we hear that glorious Word!

Loves redeeming work is done,

Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won,
Alleluia!
Lo! the Suns eclipse is oer, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!
Vain the stone, the watch, the seal,
Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell,
Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious king, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ hath led,
Alleluia!
Following our exalted head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise,
Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies,
Alleluia!

Refrain
Faith of our Parents, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
Faith of our Parents, we will strive
To win all nations unto Thee;
And through the truth that comes from
God,
We all shall then be truly free.
Refrain
Faith of our parents, we will love
Both friend and foe in all our strife;
And preach Thee, too, as love knows
how
By kindly words and virtuous life.
