PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order
to achieve required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches
a LoTi level 4a or above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking
and publish their work to an audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a
great way to boost interest and performance.

SS4H2 The student will describe European exploration in North America.
1. Describe the reasons for, obstacles to, and accomplishments of the Spanish, French, and English explorations
of John Cabot, Vasco Nez de Balboa, Juan Ponce de Len, Christopher Columbus, Henry Hudson, and
Jacques Cartier.
2. Describe examples of cooperation and conflict between Europeans and Native Americans.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will students and
teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care
about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be
assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students about their work?
The learning standard that will be addressed is SS4H2, in which student will describe European exploration in North
American. Students will work individual on their video project. Student will create a movie on Spanish, French, and
English explorations. Students will have to describe the reasons for, obstacles to, and accomplishment on
explorations. I will introduce the project at the beginning of the unit. The project will run for approximately two to
three weeks. Students will have the whole unit to work on the project. I will include class time, so that students that
dont have the resources or time at home can work on them at school. The audience will be the students parents, as I
will post the video on the class blog. I will provide feedback about their video through whole project hoping to boost
performance. Student will be assessed by a rubric, in which I will use when grading their individual work.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? Which indicators of
Engaged Learning are strong and why?
This would be a LoTi level 5, which is expansion. The student is using technology to create a video for the unit of
European exploration. This video will not only be shown in the classroom but will be published on the classroom
blog. This assignment is more students direct because the students are granted freedom with this assignment. The
students will be able to choose from a long list of European explores, in which they then make a video. The most
prevalent indicators of engaged learning in the assignment is that students are directly learning, teacher act as
facilitators, and a collaboration between home and school.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?
Student wouldnt have been able to complete this project without some form of technology. The use of multimedia
authoring tools are critical for this project because without this technology student would not be able to create a
movie about their topic. In addition to using Window Movie Maker, the student will also use website to add images,
information, videos, and music. The lack of these tools of technology would diminish the creativity for the project.

whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use
Policy.
There are always dangers when using the Internet. It is important to keep the students safe when they are online. By
giving the students a list of safe websites, it will less the danger even when they are not in the classroom. The videos
the students create will only be shown in class but also be published to our classroom blog, which will be password
protected. Having only the students first or last name, so parents can view their childs video.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity:
This multimedia project is a fantastic way for students to have a great sense of use, when it come to these
technological tools as well as enlightening their classmates about their topic.
