TECHNOLOGY AFFECT ON SOCIETY

Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps
define society and determines how one interacts with others on a daily basis. Technology
has both positive and negative effects on society including the possible improvement or
declination of society. Technology shapes our society and has both positive and negative
effects. However, the impact that technology has is an overall beneficial and positive one
that helps our society expand in ways that without it, it could not. One of the fastest
growing markets in our generation is social media. The impact of social media and
Internet all together has created new issues to discuss in our generation. Social media
usage is becoming more and more common, not only for adults, but as well as children. It
is now becoming second nature to see a 10 or 11-year-old kid with a social media
account. This worries older adults in todays society because many are hesitant about
social media and whether they should look at it in a negative or positive light. Social
media is a huge topic of discussion today in society because we experience social media
and this effect in our daily lives. Social media is beginning to become a very convenient
and impactful resource that can be strategically used for communication and marketing
by creating a new fast-paced culture and generation simultaneously.

Countless people go through their routine day oblivious to how frequently they

use social media and how reliant they are to technology. According to Manuel Castles
article, "The Impact of the Internet on Society: A Global Perspective," the media often
report that intense use of the Internet and social media can increase the risk of isolation,
alienation, and withdrawal from society, but available evidence shows that the Internet
neither isolates people nor reduces their sociability; it actually increases sociability, civic
engagement, and the intensity of family and friendship relationships, in all cultures.
From reading this small excerpt one understands the true purpose and worth of
technology and can clearly realize that the public has a misconception of social media.
Technology, more specifically social media, can help improve ones interactions with
others.
Social media positively effects things such as business and marketing, but is also
creating a new fast-paced culture and generation simultaneously. Social networks help
the businesses in a variety of ways. Traditional marketing mediums such as the radio, TV
commercials and print ads are completely obsolete now and demand for thousands of
dollars. However, with social media the businesses can connect with their targeted
customers for free, the only cost is energy and time. In Imtiaz Alis article effects of
social media on society it specified how social media was reinventing the way
businesses are ran. This shows how social media has great positives that many can
benefit and produce income off of. I learned that Beyond advertising on Facebook or
Twitter, companies are using social networks to build teams that solve problems faster,
share information better among their employees and partners, bring customer ideas for
new product designs to market earlier, and redesign all kinds of corporate software. This
can benefit not only the companies but can benefit the community as well. I think this

shows that it can be helpful in ways that many might not know. Through Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn or any other social site you can lower your marketing cost to a
significant level. One should be very careful and get to know how the effects on society
get to affect the business activities and operations. Our environments are all so filled with
technology to the point that most of the time we never actually notice the level of impact
that it has on us.

People are progressively becoming more accepting to technology and it is

migrating massively to the networks people construct. Many can exhibit their lives to
people and can be viewed as they wished. This can help build the confidence of those
people involved with accounts.

The reputations of social sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, have become
more and more known as the most sustainable communication choice for the bloggers,
article writers, and content creators. These social networking sites have presented writers
and bloggers new opportunities for them to connect with their clients as well as share
knowledge and articles. The audience shares the articles, blog or expertise in their social
circle, which further enhance their networks of the followers. Social media can help build
communication and build relationships through interactions with others. Many are able to
share and communicate with like-minded people and can ask for the input and opinion on
a particular topic. Social media has brought tremendous progressions that have led to
great change. Some of our teens join social media not to post their pictures but to find
friends with whom they can share their thoughts. It can also help when things go wrong.

One can use social media to help track predators and cyber bullies.
The impact of social media and Internet all together has created new topics to
discuss in our generation. The "The Upside of Selfies: Social Media Isn't All Bad for
Kids" article by Kelly Wallace opened my eyes to a new side of social media. Although
selfies and social media may seem to be a waste of time and important, selfies can build
much needed self-confidence and self-worth. In the article some of the statistics that were
given showed the positive effects of social media. In the survey of more than 1,000 13to 17-year-olds about how they view their digital lives, 28% said social networking made
them feel more outgoing versus 5% who said it made them feel less so; and 29% said it
made them feel less shy versus the 3% who said it made them feel more introverted.
When it comes to relationships with friends, more than half (52%) of teens said social
media has made them better versus just 4% who said it has negatively affected those
relationships. Technology has greatly helped us to become more efficient thus
increasing our productivity. It has also helped us a great deal to be able to save on many
resources such as time and money and these are great benefits that cannot be ignored. It
has also worked well in bringing unity into the world by turning it into a global village
which has in turn helped people to more easily overcome their cultural, racial and
continental barriers.
While social media may seem pointless its usage does have a positive impact on
teenagers. These statistics help show that social media can influence people by giving
them confidence, encouragement, and relationships.

In conclusion, social media affects the society in a positive way. It is a way for

businesses to get products straight to the people. In current society, a high percentage of
teens are using social media on a daily basis. Celebrities can connect directly to their fans
via Twitter. LinkedIn is a great way for aspiring entrepreneurs to start businesses. Many
businesses post their information on a Facebook page for consumers to study. It is
becoming more important to be technologically savvy, so it is imperative that businesses
and aspiring entrepreneurs learn to use social media to their advantage.
