The Fault in Our Law Enforcement

The police as we know are our law enforcement. The men and women who are supposed to
keep us safe, enforce the law, and serve justice. Now a days our police department is seen
negatively and feared. Once heroes are now becoming our foes. Our law enforcement has got out
of control when it comes to racial profiling and abusing their power. The ones who are supposed
to be saving us are killing us metaphorically & physically. We need to keep a closer eye on our
upcoming law enforcement and install surveillance of all officers since our peoples trust have
declined. Racial profiling is just as bad as verbal and mental as it is physical and this injustice is
the fault in our society. We cannot be The United States of America if we arent united. This
starts with getting rid of racial profiling in our law enforcement.
Earlier cases such as the Michael Brown case have enraged communities. The story was an
unarmed teen was fatally shot not once, twice, or even 3 times, but 6 times. "Some witnesses
maintained their original statement that Mr. Brown had his hands in the air and was not moving
toward the officer when he was shot,"(Harlan Chico). Michael brown being black was
automatically seen as more of a threat. Since there were no video surveillance the officers
actions and story and the testimonies of the witnesses will never be 100% liable. This awful
crime came from our own police force. Cases like these where police officers commit crimes like
these often dont have video footage and get off free. Why should these people get off free for
murder and racist assumptions on the victim? The truth is they shouldnt.
Another case was the Eric Garner case. The man was choked to death when no action or
violence was acted against the police. A crime like this is sickening. Although Eric was a very
large man he was racially profiled as a threat. Due to witnesses, videos were released and the
sickening cries of Eric screaming I cant breathe should turn your stomach enough. These
crimes are only tearing our society apart and making it a less safe place. Eric Garner has
become the political rallying point that Ferguson never has. (Blake, Aaron.) The reason is that
there was video evidence. The disgusting racial profiling of our law enforcement was caught all
on tape. The key is cracking down on these and instead of letting these criminals go, they pay for
their injustices.
Not only is murder being committed but just pedestrian stops and being stopped only because of
their race at airlines is wrong. Racial profiling affects a wide array of communities of color.
More than 240 years of slavery and 90 years of legalized racial segregation have led to systemic

profiling of Blacks in traffic and pedestrian stops. Since September 11, 2001, members of
Muslim, Arab, and South Asian communities have been profiled by airline personnel, federal law
enforcement, and local police (ACLU) Things like this are wrong and violate rights. The more
we crack down on these crimes and raise awareness with video surveillance we can stop these
injustice and serve justice ourselves if our law enforcement fails to. We need to come together
and our law enforcement needs to not only train officers more thoroughly but we need an eye,
since their power is starting to become abused. In all this we the people of the United States of
America can make this world a safer place.
