READING SHEET*
The purpose of this reading sheet is to guide your reading of those
texts discussed along our meetings. Enjoy it!
First Stage: Attention to Major Topics and Textual Organization
1. Scan through the text (including titles and subtitles) to identify keywords and build a semantic map out of them.
2. Try to identify the macrostructure of the text by reading titles and
subtitles. What major sections did you identify? Write a summarizing
comment on the content of each part.
3. Does the text seem to present a theoretical discussion or describe
an experiment/analysis?
Second Stage: Attention to Relevant details and Textual Language that
reflects the central topics and their organization (see Redao Acadmica
(Motta-Roth & Hendges, 2008)).
4. Try to locate the following passages in the text (if they are present):
a) Contextualization Does the study extends or criticizes a
previous research/hypoteshis? Which area of studies does it
belong to?
b) Rationale What is the importance of carrying out the
study/experiment/discussion?
c) Objective
d) Methodology How does the study was carried out? Who
participated in the study? Which materials and procedures
were used?
e) Conclusion
Third Stage: Assessment of Texts Cultural/Ideological Implications by
students application of their real-world knowledge to textual information

what extent? How can you transfer the reported experience to your
own context?1
