Ahmed Shah Massoud is generally credited as “the man who ended the Cold
War” because he defeated the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. When his country
was besieged by the Taliban, Massoud once again fought for the land and peo-
ple he loved. He was killed on September 9, 2001 by agents of Osama bin
Laden, the assassination marking the go ahead for the attacks on America two
days later.
“Much like Jesus or Martin Luther King or Lincoln, Massoud was a man of peace
with a message of hope; naturally, he was killed because of that,” Ms. Beverly
explains. “I wanted to capture that in From That Flame and not merely give
you stale facts and figures. Instead, I present to you Massoud the man and his
ideas that could save a nation.”
From That Flame is available in bookstores nation-wide and online. You can
read a sample from the book as well as learn more about Massoud at
www.fromthatflame.com. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book
are being donated to the Ahmed Shah Massoud Foundation to build a school for
girls in Massoud's Panjshir Valley.
