Knitting pattern:

CAPUCINE

One (average womens)
DIFFICULTY:
Easy peasy
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Length: 32 cm (without tassels)
Width: 22 cm
MATERIALS:
Bulky yarn (like Araucana Azapa) or
Super bulky yarn (like Araucana Coliumo)
Straight or circular needles for the flat section,
double-pointed or circular needles for the section
knitted in round: 5 mm (US 8) for bulky, 6 mm (US
10 for super bulky or size needed to obtain the
gauge.
Tapestry needle
GAUGE:
Bulky: 22 sts/36 rows = 15 cm in stockinette st
Super bulky: 18 sts/33 rows = 15 cm in stockinette st

ABBREVIATIONS:
k - knit
p - purl
k2tog - knit 2 together
ssk slip slip knit
* - repeat

PATTERN NOTES:
The pattern is written for both super bulky and bulky yarn. The number of stitches and rows for the bulky version is in the
square brackets []. You will need approximately 100 meters of bulky/super bulky yarn for the hat and the same amount for the
tassels.

DIRECTIONS:
With straight or circular needles cast on 82 [102] stitches.

2x2 ribbed hem:


Row 1: (k2, p2)*, k2
Row 2: (p2, k2)*, p2
Rows 3 10 [12]: repeat Rows 1-2 4x [5x] => approx. 5 cm of ribbed hem

Garter stitch section:


Rows 11-12 [13-16]: k82 [102]
Row 13 [17]: k1, ssk, k1, ssk, knit to last 6 stitches of the row, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1 => 78 [98] stitches remain
Row 14 [18]: k78 [98]
Repeat rows 13-14 [17-18] three [four] more times. 66 [82] stitches remain
Row 21 [27]: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches of the row, k2tog, k1 => 64 [80] stitches remain
Row 22 [28]: k 64 [80]
Rows 23-35 [29-49]: k64 [80] (you are ending this section with an odd row)
Transfer your work to circular needles or double pointed needles and join in round.

The crown
Knit 4 centimeters in stockinette st. and then decrease 8 stitches every 2nd row as follows:
Round 1 8 [10]: k64 [80] (approx. 4 cm)
Round 9 [11]: (k6 [8], k2 tog)* => 56 [72] stitches left
Round 10 [12]: k56 [72]
Round 11 [13]: (k5 [7], k2tog)* => 48 [64] stitches left
Round 12 [14]: k48 [64]
Round 13 [15]: (k4 [6], k2tog)* => 40 [56] stitches left
Round 14 [16]: k40 [56]
Round 15 [17]: (k3 [5], k2tog)* => 32 [48] stitches left
Round 16 [18]: k32 [48]
Round 17 [19]: (k2 [4], k2tog)* => 24 [40] stitches left
Round 18 [20]: k24 [40]
Round 19 [21]: (k1 [3], k2tog)* => 16 [32] stitches left
Round 20 [22]: k16 [32]

Only for super bulky:


Round 21: (k2tog)* => 8 stitches left
Only for bulky:
Round [23]: (k[2], k2tog)* => [24] stitches left

Round [27]: (k2tog)* => [8] stitches left
FINISHING:
Cut yarn leaving a 15 cm tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and pull through remaining stitches. Fasten the top, weave
the ends, attach the tassels, sew on some felt birds and voila!
