(1958)

This poem is physically shaped like a leaf, falling lonely, nothing else happens; no other leaves falling together; symbolizing and reflecting the theme of the poem: deteriorating and decomposing. In poetics, there are several terms for this kind of poetry, such as concrete poetry, pattern poetry, shaped poetry, pictographic poetry, cubic poetry, or spatials. In the 16th and 17th century England it was believed by some people that poems written in certain patterns possessed certain mysterious forces and they were called emblem poems then.
