Identification System
AIS Technology
The Automatic Identification System is designed for autonomous information
exchange between ship&ship and ship&shore-based station. This information
includes ships name, location, speed and course over ground. Transas
transponders also have a function which allows operator to send binary and
text messages from ship to ship, from ship to shore and v.v. The exchange of
information is realized through two VHF channels.
The transponders are working in broadcast mode on shared channels, thus all
transponder equipped vessels can see each other. This exchange of
information is performed fully autonomously (without any involvement from a
controlling station). The broadcast data is received both by transponder
equipped vessels and shore based transponders.
