Introduction/Motivation
10 minutes
Explain to students that todays lesson is going to be about verbs.
Explain: So, what are verbs?

A verb is an action word. A verb tells what the person or thing does or what happens to it.
We need them to tell us what is happening.
Give the students a few examples of verbs (use animals as well)
Next, they are asked for a few examples.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
These sentences can be written on the board, and then students are asked to figure out the
action words.
1. The girl smiled at the teacher.
(smiled- tells what the girl did)
2. Daniel listens to the teacher.
(listens-tells what Daniel is doing)
3. Mary was lost in the woods.
(was lost-tells what happened to Mary)

Many sentences have more than 1 verb. Ask students to find 3 verbs in this sentence.

reading, etc. difficult understand)
Do you have any questions?
