Medical Tourism Guide

Why does medical care cost so much less abroad? Patients often have second thoughts on the quality of surgical services with such low costs. In the U.S., medical fees are driven by overhead labor, executive expenses and insurance contracts. It is clear to see that labor costs is the primary reason why the price for medical treatments varies from country to country. Over 71% of hospital costs are labor related according to a recent World Health Organization report which helps to explain some of the cost advantages for countries with low labor cost. Medical agencies carefully select the countries that consist their network for medical tourism in accordance to the JCI Accreditation Standards. Here is how JCI ensures the quality of hospitals in its network:

Coverage from Patient Entry to Discharge - assess the quality of patient care from the time a patient enters a facility to discharge. Two Level of Compliance - measure performance against both the core requirements needed to achieve accreditation and additional standards that lead organizations to best practice levels. Creates a Culture of Patient Safety - implement standards that focus on patient safety and risk reduction in clinical processes. The choice to where and when the medical procedure will be done depends entirely on the patient. An informed research about testimonies of previous patients will be useful. Medical forums as well as reviews can help make a definite choice. Here are some useful tips for your medical trip: 1. Make sure you are accompanied by a relative or friend for your entire stay. Preferably, that friend should have medical knowledge and should monitor EVERY test and medication administered. If there is any doubt about ANY thing, the doctor at home should be called immediately. 2. Evidence of credentials of physicians. 3. Insurance available in the United States or Europe for malpractice, negligence or medical error. 4. Evidence of licenses of all personnel to be attending the prospective patient. 5. A full disclosure of how many procedures of various kinds (particularly the procedure you intend to performed) and the complication rate. 6. Percentage of those foreign patients (in patient services for Patients) who have returned for second or third procedures. 7. List of each doctor who are US Board Certified or Certified in other countries the and evidence of those credentials.
