helping in the household

Advantages

1. enjoys EQUAL STATUS technological advancement


with men:
- allowed to divorce
- own and inherit property
- engage in business and
trade
- lead their respective
barangays or territories
2. Matriarchal
- their opinions hold great
in matters of politics and
religion (ex. Babaylans - a
female spiritual leader)

Disadvantages

1. due to the influence of the

colonial times, struggles to


attain or reverse their equal
status with men:
- prohibited to become spiritual
leaders
- less women holding public
position
- more prone to discrimination at
work (less likely to be hired)
- more inclined to stay at home
and depend on their husbands
economically

2. Do not have SEXUAL


freedom
- virginity is an issue/ women are
discriminated or viewed of less
value if she is no more a virgin
or is a teenage mother
