PETER R.

COOPER
INTERIM HEAD OF SCHOOL

December 1, 2010
Reference Letter for Pegeen (Peg) Crockett
To whom it may concern:
I am delighted to offer my enthusiastic endorsement of Peg Crockett as a candidate for a position
as a science teacher and/or department chair in an international school. As the interim head of
school for this past school year (and for the current one as well), I have been able to observe Peg
in many situations and found her to be an excellent teacher with a natural exuberance that
inspires both her students and her colleagues. I spent 31 years in international schools outside
the United States (the last 20 as headmaster) and I would have hired Peggy at any of those
schools. I am confident that she will be equally successful overseas as she has been since 1999
at the Awty International School.
When I first met Peg, I was impressed by her lively nature, her innate cheerfulness, and her focus
on teaching and working with students. Even before classes began, I saw her most mornings as
she was an assistant coach for the cross country teams. In the Texas heat, it is important to train
before the day becomes too hot. The students hard work paid off in November when the boys
won the state championship for their division and the girls came in second place. I know that
Pegs encouragement played an important part in the teams successes.
Early last year, I attended several meetings of the heads of departments for the secondary
school. Peg always contributed positive ideas to these conversations and she did so in a collegial
manner. She also did an excellent job last year in screening and recruiting two new members of
the science department who replaced two departing teachers. Peg clearly enjoys the respect of
her department and of all teachers with whom she comes in contact.
If you are seeking an experienced and successful IB Biology teacher, Peg Crockett is an
outstanding candidate. Her students scores on both the standard and higher level exams have
been consistently high (one full point above the world average). She knows the material well and
she motivates her students to do their best. I am sure she would be equally successful teaching
AP courses in Biology. I think very highly of Peg and I commend her to you for your careful
consideration. I encourage you to interview her and see whether she merits the strong
recommendation I am giving her.
Yours truly,
Peter R. Cooper
