Why me? Why now? What now?

These questions come to the forefront of our lives when we are caring for a loved one but the real questions we ask
ourselves may sound more like Why am I the only one taking care of Mom? Just when Im ready to retire, why do I
have to end up caring for Dad? Ive used up a lot of savings helping to care for my grands. What am I going to do
now?
Wouldnt you like to have someone to talk to about these issues?
Mount Pleasant Regional Library can help. We have partnered with
Carolina Hospice Care to offer a Caregiver Support Group, held on the
fourth Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. Meetings are informal and
you can have a cup of coffee and a snack while learning about new
resources and tips for coping. Its a time to share your experience while
receiving comfort and compassion from those who also understand the
emotional, physical and financial stress of a caregiver.
Its a place to vent your frustrations without fear of criticism.

The journey of a caregiver has many highs and lows; it is imperative

that you take care not only of your loved one, but also of yourself. Each
journey is unique and essential, and we are here to hear your concerns,
answer your questions, and help you to navigate the resources at your
disposal.
Join us at our upcoming 2015 meetings: July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28, Oct.
26, Nov. 23 and Dec. 28. In the meantime, the library has some books
which may help. Look for The Caregivers Companion: Caring for Your
Loved One Medically, Financially and Emotionally While Caring for
Yourself by Carolyn A. Brent, The 36-Hour Day: A Family Guide to
Caring for People Who Have Alzheimer Disease, Related Dementias and
Memory Loss by Nancy Mace and Peter Rabins, or Passages in Caregiving: Turning Chaos into Confidence by Gail
Sheehy.
