Tata Nano
• On night of 23rd Aug, 2003
Rattan Tata saw a young
couple with their two
children on two-wheeler
and was struck by
enormous risks of riding on
a wet road.
• The quest of making two-
wheeler safe gave rise to the
idea of making car which
every middle class can buy.
• And that idea lead to the birth
of NANO.
• On January 10, 2008 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi the most
. hyped car of the world finally was finally shown. It got the rock
. . star entry with overwhelming crowd.
Nano Plant
• Tata Group chairman RATAN TATA and West Bengal CM
BUDDHADEB BHATTACHARJEE jointly announce the plan
for the NANO PLANT.

• The state had acquired 997.11 acres of farmland for the small car
project, saying it was for a “public purpose”.

• Six hundred and ninety-two acres had been acquired by paying Rs

119 crore and later nearly 305.3 acres were acquired on
September 25, 2006 by paying 10 per cent enhanced amount of
Rs 56.94 crore.

• The choice of Singur was made by the company among six sites
offered by the state government.

Singur
• Singur is a census town in Hooghly district in the
Indian state of West Bengal.
• Singur railway station is 34 km from Howrah
Station on the Howrah-Tarakeswar line.
• It is 2 km ahead of Kamarkundu junction, the
crossing point of Howrah-Bardhaman chord
and Howrah-Tarakeshwar lines.
• It is just off the Dankuni-Shaktigarh Durgapur
Expressway.

Banerjee completed
degrees in Work
Education and LLB

Why???
• She believed that out of the 997 acres of land acquired
for the project, 400 acres had been illegally and
forcibly wrenched from the farmers. She, therefore,
wanted that land to be returned to the farmers.

• She said that she was fighting for the rights of the
farmers. 2,000 out of the 12,000 farmers whose land
had been acquired for the project, supported her
claim.
