Dear Ms. Barbara Tremblay,
This letter is written to recognize the conscientious and determined
efforts by Ms. Erin Gill to meet the unique learning and IEPmandated needs of a student with vision loss at 721K.
To many educators, a teaching assignment involving students who
are blind or visually impaired may seem a daunting and
overwhelming proposition. However, throughout the past two
school years, Ms. Gill has demonstrated ingenuity and
professionalism in her work to consistently shape and deliver
instruction in an accessible, multisensory format.
In a commitment to efficacy, Ms. Gill delivers instruction that
incorporates tactile and olfactory exploration, anticipatory cues,
tangible calendar boards and regular opportunities for review and
reinforcement as needed for skill acquisition. Such fundamental
elements to learning are also evident in Ms. Gills horticultural
initiative in which she has used the 721K Garden as a vehicle to
promote vocational skill development through hands-on
exploration and study of the plant life cycle.
In addition, Ms. Gill has worked collaboratively through the
regular reporting of her performance insights and observations to
the multidisciplinary team in order to identify and target areas of
relevant strength and weakness displayed by her student with
vision loss.
In sum, it has been a privilege to witness the positive impact of

Ms. Gills commitment to multisensory instruction as well as her

efforts to maintain predictability, a critical element to concept
development in youngsters who are blind or visually impaired, in
both her classroom environment and daily learning routines.
Please recognize the exemplary practice demonstrated by Ms. Gill
and forward a copy of this letter to her service record. It is with
unequivocal support that I recommend Ms. Gill be approved to
serve as a tenured educator in the New York City Department of
Education.
Sincerely,
Michael Gill
