Physical Education

DRESS POLICY
1. Shoes: athletic/ tennis shoes, no flip flops or slip-ons
2. T-shirts: gray plain or MHS associated logos only
3. Shorts: black plain or MHS associated logos only
4. During cold weather, sweats of any color are okay. P.E. clothes must be
worn underneath
5. No cut-offs or clothing that is ripped
6. No tank-tops or oversized clothing
7. No pajamas
8. No school clothes worn under P.E. clothes
Physical Education clothes may be purchased in the Student Body Office.
Students are required to dress daily in required MHS P.E. uniform. A complete change of
athletic clothing must be worn.
There will be no make-up on a non-dress and failure to wear the appropriate attire will
result in the following:
First non-dress of the semester:
Counseled by teacher
Student does not earn 10 points for the day
Second non-dress of the semester:
Counseled by teacher
Student does not earn 10 points for the day
Teacher makes contact with parent through a phone call or letter
Third non-dress of the semester:
Student is referred to the counselor
Student does not earn 10 points for the day
Fourth non-dress of the semester:
Student is referred to the associate principal
Associate principal counsels student and a copy of the referral is sent home
Student does not earn 10 points for the day
Associate principal assigns work detail, detention, or ON CAMPUS SUSPENSION
Fifth non-dress of the semester:
The student is sent to the associate principal with a written referral and may be drop-failed
for that semester.
They will have to re-take P.E.!

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are requirements for students in order to achieve a passing grade and to
meet the requirement for
graduation.
Report to roll call by the tardy bell
Be prepared with P.E. clothes and other required materials
Dress daily in required P.E. clothes
Follow teacher's directions
Participate to their best physical ability everyday
Be courteous and respect the rights of others at all times
Report injuries to the instructor immediately
Students needing inhalers are required to have them in their possession at
all times
Stay with class until dismissed by instructor
Stay behind designated line after dressing
No spitting on the ground due to sanitary reasons
Do not use profanity in any language
PARTICIPATION EXCUSES
A note from a doctor is required to excuse a student due to injury or illness. Student work
may be modified or
make-up work may be required. Student must dress out. Assignments vary by teacher.
Absences:
Absences may be made up if completed within two school days per absence. Students
must contact instructor to
receive make-up work. This is the student's responsibility.
Medical Excuses:
Students who are unable to participate for nine weeks will be removed from P.E. for the
semester and it must be
completed prior to graduation.
Long-term medical excuses may be referred and screened by the Adaptive Physical
Education Instructor.
Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.) meetings will be held for all eligible students
with medical notes to
Adaptive Physical Education.
* THE DEPARTMENT FEELS IF YOU ARE WELL ENOUGH TO ATTEND SCHOOL THEN
YOU ARE WELL ENOUGH TO DRESS AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASS.
LOCKER ROOM POLICIES
Girls Locker Room:
Use your assigned small locker when you are not in physical education

class
Use long locker during class period
A combination lock will be provided . The combination should never be given
to another student.
Personal locks will be cut off unless prior arrangements have been made
with the P.E. staff
Do not share lockers
No student unsupervised in the locker room
Students are responsible for issued lock. Lost locks will be a fee of $10
No food or drink in the locker room
Lock all valuables in locker. The P.E. staff will not be responsible for any lost
or stolen articles
Boys Locker Room:
Use your assigned locker during the year
Do not share lockers
Secure locker everyday
No student unsupervised in the locker room
No changing in restroom

GRADING POLICY
Daily participation points = 10
Attending class
Dressing in proper P.E. uniform as stated in dress policy
Participating in warm-up, activity, and fitness
An ENDURANCE RUN TEST will be given every week. Students may earn up to 50 points
on this test each week.
Grading scale- based on % of total points. Two quarters make up one semester.
A = 90% and above
B = 80% to 89%
C = 70% to 79%
D = 60% to 69%
F = below 60 %
MHS follows the California State Standards in Physical Education and our classes are
designed to increase the fitness
levels of our students.
