FACULTY OF EDUCATION

GRADUATE STUDIES
Duncan McArthur Hall
Queens University
Kingston, Ontario, Canada K7L 3N6

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Dear Amy:
We are very pleased that you have accepted our offer of admission to the online Professional Master of Education
(PME) degree program commencing in July 2015 at Queens University.
To avoid any confusion with our Graduate Diploma in Professional Inquiry (GDPI) program, we just want to take
this opportunity to remind you that we have two online programs operating simultaneously at the graduate level.
Both diploma and degree students have chosen our programs because they share a passion for high quality,
continuous, professional learning. For this reason, the required courses and electives available for your first five
credits are the same as those taken by diploma students. Those registered in the GDPI who successfully complete
these five courses will be awarded a diploma in professional inquiry, and then may decide within five years to apply
for admission to the PME degree program if they choose to pursue advanced inquiry skills in a particular field. As a
direct entry student to the PME, you will not be awarded a diploma after successfully completing your first five
courses, but will continue seamlessly to the final five courses to meet degree requirements.
Course Registration
Enrolment for PME graduate courses for the summer is currently open so you may go online to select your
courses(s) anytime between now and June 1, 2015. There is a tutorial on enrollment available at
http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/registration/tutorials/fallwinter although it is tailored to undergraduates the same
principles apply so you may find it helpful.
The courses available this summer are as follows:
Summer 2015
PME-813 (Knowledge Translation & Mobilization) Amanda Cooper
PME-800* (Self-Regulated Inquiry and Learning) Michelle Searle
PME-801* (Collaborative Inquiry) Richard Reeve
*Core (required) courses to meet degree requirements
If you have any difficulties during the self-enroll process let me know us early as possible so we can figure out what
the problem is before the commencement of your course(s). The deadline for you to drop 2015 summer term courses
is July 8, 2015.
Program Registration

The University will communicate with you about important things such as registration procedures, tuition
arrangements, etc. via email to your Queens email account (@queensu.ca). Therefore, if you have not already done
so, it is important that you set up your Queens network login, password and email account as soon as possible so
that you can receive this important information. The login is called your NetID, and instructions on how to
generate it can be found at http://www.queensu.ca/ca/its/netid.html. You will need your Queens student number to
go through these processes.
Fee Payment Arrangements
Please remember that you must make fee payment arrangements prior to program registration. For information
please refer to the Office of the University Registrars website at http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/registration/gradstudents. Even though this webpage notes that you do not need to go on SOLUS to enroll in your graduate courses,
this is not true for our online programs, so please proceed with online course registration as noted above.
Accessing Your Online Course
As long as your registration is complete and your tuition payments have been arranged you will be able to access
your online course using your Queens NetID through Desire2Learn (D2L) on the first day of the session, which
will be Thursday July 2, 2015 and will cover a period of 7 weeks. Fall courses normally begin in the second full
week of September and winter courses normally begin in the second full week of January, and both cover a period of
10 weeks.
You will receive an invitation from us via email in mid-June inviting you to our community space where you will be
provided with an opportunity to check out the tools/technology that will be used in your course(s).
Academic Integrity Quiz
All students are required to complete the Academic Integrity Quiz online, which you can access once you login to
The Community. If you can complete it within the first two weeks of class it would be most appreciated.
Course Materials
You can order any required textbooks, if applicable, from the Queens campus Bookstore by going to
http://www.campusbookstore.com/Textbooks/SearchEngine or any other retailer.
