Writing a newspaper

article
All newspaper articles
have:
 1. A headline, which draws the reader into
the story in as few words as possible.
 2. A dateline that tells where the writer is
writing.
 3. Short paragraphs that answer the 5 W
questions:
◦ WHO?
◦ WHAT?
◦ WHEN?
◦ WHERE?
◦ WHY?
Most newspaper articles
contain:
Quotations from eye-
witnesses that help
inform the reader what
happened.
Newspaper articles do NOT
contain
 The use of “I” or “me.” (The story is about
the news, not the person writing it!)
 Personal judgments about what happened in
the incident.
