What is that hammering I

hear?

I walked over to take a look, and lying on the ground

was a large wooden cross. Much to my horror I saw a
man being nailed to it. My heart pounded within me.
The sight was too much to behold. Large nails were
being cruelly driven through the tender flesh of his
hands and feet. The blood was flowing freely. I
imagined myself in his place, and the agony he must
have suffered. Words cannot describe it. His groans
pierced my heart, and my tears flowed like rivers of
water for him. Then the cross was lifted up and
hammered vigorously into the ground. WHO WAS HE?

JESUS CHRIST, the only begotten Son of God.

He suffered for you and for me. Not only did He bear
physical pain, but more so mentally. For the sins of
the whole world were weighing down upon Him.

“For God so LOVED the world, that He GAVE His ONLY

BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believeth in Him,
should not perish, but HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.”
John 3:16.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay

down his life for his friends. Ye are My friends.”
John 15:13,14.

Right throughout the ages, since sin first had its

beginning, the sacrifice of an animal was required.
This sacrifice looked forward to the coming of the Son
of God to this earth. Man was to look forward, by
faith, to this great event. Jesus Christ would become
our required human sacrifice for sin.
Sin entered this world back in the Garden of Eden, by
Lucifer (Satan), the father of it. Since then, through
Adam death has come upon every man. For the whole
human race descends from the first man, Adam.

“The Son of God, heaven’s glorious Commander, was

touched with pity for the fallen race. His heart was
moved with infinite compassion as the woes of the
lost world rose up before Him. But divine love had
conceived a plan whereby man might be
redeemed……

“Christ would take upon Himself the guilt and shame

of sin – sin so offensive to a holy God that it must
separate the Father and His Son. Christ would reach
of the depths of misery to rescue the ruined race……

“O, the mystery of redemption! The love of God for a

world that did not love Him! Who can know the
depths of that love which ‘passeth knowledge’?.....
God was to be manifest in Christ, ‘reconciling the
world unto Himself’. 2Cor.5:19. Patriarchs and
Prophets, p.57,58.
