Background

Home to an audio recording

program since 1968 and its
facilities have been fortunate to
see a radical evolution over its
existence.

Second radical renovation in 15

years

The Schooner Center & RTVC

revamp was overseen by The
Collaborative Inc. and WaltersStoryk Design Group

In The Beginning

Project Rationale

The School of Media Arts & Studies has evolved radically

since its humble beginnings. A new facility was needed to
meet both student demands and current trends.

The school includes majors in:

Media & Social Change

Games & Animation

Music Production & Recording Industry

Screenwriting & Producing

Integrated Media (video production)

Project Rationale

Classes that will benefit include

Audio Production Basics

Music Production and Technology I & II

Video and Audio Field Production

History of Audio & Storytelling

Sound for Moving Image

Music Production: Mixing and Delivery

Recording Studio Design & Maintenance

Critical Listening Skills & Ear Training

Project Rationale

The Music Production & Recording Industry (MPRI) area is

most directly impacted by the expansion, however, students
in Integrated Media and Games & Animation areas
complete extensive coursework in audio post-production.

Until the 2013-15 renovation, a load of 160+ MPRI students

plus students from other areas was serviced by our sole 2
studio suite.

Pre-Renovation Facilities

Shared live rooms with separate

mixing rooms for flexibility.

Design Theory & Process

Primary Goal Provide students a flow

within facility use that matched existing
curricular build with the following
additional assets:

Facilities specific to analog multitrack

recording.

A dedicated mixing / mastering room

Space for audio post-production and

critical listening.

Multiple audio-specific and blended-use

labs, dedicated to introductory,
intermediate, and advanced production.
