re you not enter-tained?Had Russell Crowe’s character in “Gladia-tor” asked that question in Lan-caster-Lebanon League football arenas last fall, the answer would have been a resounding “yes.” And why not? Each of the three sections went down to the regular season’s final weekend, with eventual champi-ons Wilson, Lampeter-Strasburg and Northern Lebanon each claiming their titles by a mere game.Longtime head man Doug Dahms and his Bulldogs contin-ued their dominance of Section One, but not without a challenge from Manheim Township. Wil-son went 7-0 in section play, and in effect won its seventh straight title on Oct. 17 in West Lawn by dealing the Blue Streaks their lone L-L loss, 28-14. What can we say about Section Two except that it was historically good, arguably the most competi-tive race in league history dating back to the L-L’s 1972 inception. Five of the section’s eight teams were still in the hunt heading into the final games. In the end, John Class AAAA title and advancedto the state semifinals; Cocalicoreached the District Three Class AAA championship game. And when the dust finally settledat the end of the long campaign, two of the league’s two longest-tenured head coaches — Man-heim Central’s Mike Williams and Annville-Cleona’s Terry Lehma— stepped down after a combined62 years on the job.So what to expect in 2015?More of the same and, it sayshere, perhaps an even better sea-son.For starters there’s the dramaticreturn of L-S QB Collin “Bear”Shank from a brain tumor. Hiscourage, his faith, his determina-tion have inspired his teammates, his coaches and his opponents.“It’s a testament to his desire,”Garden Spot coach Matt Zam-perini said. “I have a lot of respecfor his love of the game. Not a loof kids could have come back likehe has.”Comebacks could be at a pre-mium in the league this season.L-L coaches in each of the threesections have likened their leagueschedules to a “gauntlet.”Township, Solanco andNorthern Lebanon have es-tablished themselves as legit-

Under coach Mark Evans, Manheim Township, along with Solanco and Northern Lebanon, have established themselves as legitimate title con-tenders.
Manion guided Lampeter-Stras-burg (6-1) to its third title in five years, the Pioneers finishing one game ahead of Garden Spot and Manheim Central. In Section Three, fifth-year boss Roy Wall took Northern Lebanon to its first title since 1991, edging Lebanon County neighbor Annville-Cleona by one game and defending champion Donegal by two games. Wilson won the District Three
