Welcome to the World Famous Learning Extravaganza

Hosted  by:  Mr.  H            Now  Playing  in:  Rm.  33

STEP 1: Learn about your teacher & our classroom.

I  am  Mr.  Housepian.  You  can  also  call  me  Mr.  H  or  Mr.  House
Contact  Info  for  Mr.  H
I  grew  up  in  Fresno,  CA.  Right  in  the  middle  of  our  state.

I  graduated  from  California  State  University,  Fresno  where  I  earned
Mr.  Housepian:  Room  33
my  Bachelor  of  Arts  degree.
email:  chousepian@ggusd.us
I  also  have  a  Master’s  degree  in  Educational  Technology  from  Azusa
website:  room33.rocks
Pacific  University.
phone:  714.663.6351
Before  becoming  a  teacher  I  worked  at  Warner  Bros.  Studios  making

feature  films  for  six  years.  If  you  have  seen  The  Dark  Night,  Inception,
Ocean’s  Thirteen  or  The  Hangover,  then  you’ve  seen  one  of  the  many  films     that  I  have  worked  on.

My  wife  (who  is  a  teacher  at  Pacifica  HS)  and  I  have  a  5  year  old  daughter  n   amed  Emma  and  a  2  and  a  half  year
old  son  named  Ben.

What  I’m  About:
• I  love  traveling,  good  food,  sports  (especially  college  football,  Go  Fresno  State!!),  anything
having  to  do  with  technology,  and  spending  time  with  my  family  and  friends.
• I  love  history,  classroom  technology,  and  teaching  you  guys.
• I  like  students  who  are  ORGANIZED.    I  don’t  like  it  when  students  shove  papers  in
backpacks.    Your  things  should  always  to  be  put  away  in  their  appropriate  places.
• I  don’t  like  it  when  people  talk  when  someone  else  is  talking  in  the  classroom.    We  are
a  FAMILY  in  room  33.  Be  respectful  and  listen  when  others  are  sharing  something  with  the  class  and  others
will  be  respectful  of  you.
• I  like  it  when  students  COME  TO  ME  FOR  EXTRA  HELP.    You  can  always  get  extra  help  from  me  if  you  are
struggling.    Just  email  me  or  let  me  know  you’ll  be  coming  by  before  or  after  school  so  I  can  make  sure  I’m
available  for  you.

What  I’m  NOT  About:
I'm  not  about  lecturing.    I'm  not  about  textbooks.    I'm  not  about  memorizing  names  and  dates.    I'm  not  a  fan  of
homework,  either.    This  year  you'll  find  out  what  I  am  about.    Here's  a  hint:  Group  work,  inquiry,  academic
discourse,  research,  and  self-‐advocacy,  just  to  name  a  few  things.  ;-‐)

STEP 2: Know the technology we use.

We  use  technology  extensively  in  this  class.    While  in  our  classroom,  you  will  be  assigned  your  own  Chromebook  computer.
A  majority  of  your  assignments  will  utilize  the  Chromebooks,  the  GAFE  (Google  Apps  For  Education)  accounts  assigned  to
you  by  GGUSD,  and  be  completed  in  our  Google  Classroom.    You  will  be  shown  how  to  access  and  navigate  these  sites  in
class.

In  order  to  be  successful  in  this  class,  provide  you  with  a  cutting-‐edge  education,  and  prepare  you  for  the  21st  century  job
market  it  is  very  important  that  you  have  access  to  the  internet.    If  internet  access  at  home  is  unavailable,  then  it  will  be
expected  that  students  utilize  the  computer  lab  on  campus.    There  will  be  no  excuses  for  not  being  able  to  access  the
internet  to  complete  your  assignments.    Please  visit  www.room33.rocks  for  more  information  on  the  importance  of
technology  in  education  and  how  we  integrate  it  into  our  class.

Please  visit  www.room33.rocks  and  click  on  “About  Our  Class”  for  more  information  as  well  as  directions  for  joining  our
class  Remind.com  account  so  you  can  get  smartphone  reminders  about  assignments,  tests,  and  also  class  news.

You  may  leave  no  more  than  ONCE  a  week  from  my  class,  so  make  it  count!    I  don’t  care  why  you  leave,  as
long  as  it  is  for  a  legitimate  reason.    If  you  wish  to  leave,  you  will  need  to…
1.)  Raise  your  hand  and  ask  for  permission.
2.)  If  granted  permission,  fill  out  the  back  portion  of  your  binder  reminder  and  bring  it  to  me  to  sign.  Once

HOMEWORK  &  LATE  WORK

Every  day,  you  will  leave  my  class  knowing  what  is  expected  of  you  for  the  following
day’s  class. You will know this because I wrote it on the board and you will have
written it down in your binder reminder!!
Generally  speaking,  I  do  NOT  accept  late  work.    However,  you  may  speak  to  me  about
specific  situations  that  you  are  facing  that  are  inhibiting  you  from  completing  your  work
on  time.    Late  work  may,  on  occasion,  be  accepted  for  a  lowered  grade.    Accepting  late
work  is  at  the  discretion  of  Mr.  H  and  purely  the  responsibility  of  the  students.

¶TARDIES¶

Class  starts  when  the  bell  rings.    Students  are  expected  to  have  their  materials  ready  and  be  IN  THEIR

If  you  are  absent  the  day  an  assignment  is  given:
• Check  Google  Classroom  and  then  with  me  to  see  if  any  work  was  assigned.
• You  are  allowed  one  day  extra  for  each  day  absent  to  turn  in  make-‐up  work.  It  is  your  responsibility  to
make  up  absent  work  I  am  not  going  to  hold  your  hand  and  remind  you  that  you  have  missing  work.
If  you  are  absent  the  day  an  assignment  is  due:
• You  must  hand  it  in  on  the  day  you  return  to  school.

STEP 4: Know how you will be graded & how each assignment & assessment is weighted.

CHECK  YOUR  GRADE  REGULARLY  ON  PARENT  PORTAL!!
STEP 5: Come to class every day prepared to learn and with ALL MATERIALS for success.

þ 3-‐Ring  Binder  (filled  with  plenty  of  college-‐ruled  paper)
þ Writing  tools:  pens,  sharpened  pencils,  2+highlighters  (diff  colors)
þ School  Planner

STEP 6: Come to class with a positive attitude & a purpose.

ü This  class  will  be  completely  different  than  any  other  class  you  have  ever  taken.    To  succeed  you  must  suspend
your  pre-‐conceived  notions  about  what  is  allowed  in  a  classroom  and  get  into  the  spirit  of  helping  to  create  an
outrageously  fun  and  entertaining  experience.    I  believe  this  will  be  your  favorite  class  of  all  time  and  one  that
you  will  remember  forever….  But  it  only  works  if  we  agree  to  one  rule:  THIS  IS  A  NO  MEANNESS  ZONE!!

I  will  tolerate  all  sorts  of  things,  but  I  will  never  tolerate  meanness.  All  of  the  fun  will  come  grinding  to  a  stop  if
somebody  is  being  mean  to  another  student  or  doing  something  that  hurts  another’s  feelings.

ü It  is  MY  goal  that  every  day,  you  will  be  able  to  walk  into  my  classroom,  look  at  the  Agenda  Board,  and  know
what  the  day’s  lesson  will  entail.    You  will  know  what  the  Objective  of  the  lesson  is  and  what  you  are  expected
to  know  and  be  able  to  do  by  the  end  of  the  period.

ü It  will  be  YOUR  goal  to  come  with  a  positive  attitude  and  a  belief  that  you  CAN  SUCCEED!

Now, without further adieu….

Let the Learning Extravaganza Begin!!
