Fr. Dave’s Going Away Party!
Father John Duffy, CSP, president of
the Paulist Fathers, recently announced
the Paulist who will succeed Father
Dave Farnum, CSP as director of the
University Catholic Center. Father Ed
Nowak (pronounced 'Novak") will take
the helm effective August 1, 2008.
Father Nowak is currently serving the Paulists as Director of
Vocations, a position he has held for six years. His previous
assignments include campus ministry positions at the
University of California at Santa Barbara and the University
of Minnesota at Minneapolis. Father Nowak is a native of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is 47 years old and has been a priest
for 19 years.

Save the Date: July 27 after each Mass. There will be a
reception for Fr. Dave to thank him for his years of service
and wish him well as he begins his new assignment as
Director of Vocations. Father Dave will fly to NYC on
August 2.

Who’s That Priest?
If you were at the 8 pm Mass last Sunday, you
might have spotted a young man in a Roman
collar. He isn't a priest… yet. Paulist
Seminarian Dat Tran will be serving his
pastoral year at St. Austin's Parish. The pastoral year follows
two years of graduate study. It is a year of hands-on ministry
in a Paulist parish. Next year Dat will return to his studies in
Washington, DC for another two years earning a Masters of
Divinity prior to ordination. While he'll be working at St.
Austin’s most of the time, Dat will be a common face around
the UCC this year. Be sure to introduce yourself!

Sound too good to be true? It has to be true if it’s in the
Parish Bulletin! St. Austin’s Adult Volleyball would like to
invite UCC parishioners to join them any Thursday evening
at 7:30 pm in the Parish Center/Gym at 21st Street & San
Antonio. Anyone, 18 years or older, regardless of skill level
is welcome to join us for pick-up volleyball. You are not
joining a team – whoever shows, plays. Come late, leave
early, skip a month – but whenever you can, join this fun

Compass Bible Study During the Summer!
Meeting on Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm in the St.
Francis Room during the Summer, Compass is a
fun and laid-back way to read scripture and get a little more
out of Mass. Every week we spend an hour discussing the
next Sunday’s readings and sharing our faith. We are student
run, student led, and totally low time commitment, so drop by
whenever you can. Come hang out with us this Tuesday!

Give a Stimulus to the Economy — and the UCC!

Over the next several weeks, many of us will be receiving
“Economic Stimulus” checks from the federal government.
This “extra” money is an excellent opportunity to practice the
discipline of good stewardship by using the money for pur-
poses beyond our own personal desires. Prayerfully consider
using all or part of the economic stimulus money for the
benefit of others. All or a portion could be given as an extra
gift back to God through the Sunday collection, or to another
charity. Each time we place God first by sharing all that we
have been given -- our time, talent and treasure -- we are tak-
ing another step toward becoming a disciple of Christ and
following in his footsteps. If you have any questions about

Micah 6 Food Pantry
UCC participates in the ecumenical Micah 6
food pantry through donation and volunteering
on Thursdays and Saturdays. Many of the people
we serve are homeless. Don’t forget our “neighbors” who
have nothing during the summer months. Please continue to
bring canned goods and packaged dry goods to Sunday Mass
for the baskets near the fountain. We ask that you continue to
support the Micah 6 Food Pantry with your generous
donations. Thanks to all for your help.

University Graduate Students & Professionals-
UGAP is a group of post-college age people who
share and live the love of Christ in community
through worship, faith formation, social service, spiritual
development and fellowship. We meet on Tuesdays at 7 pm in
the Mother Teresa Room throughout the Summer.
