Lesson Plan

Day: Thursday

Date: 27th August 2015

Learning Area: Mathematics

Year: Pre-Primary

Topic: Possible/Impossible

Curriculum content description:

Identify outcomes of familiar events involving chance and describe them using
everyday language such as will happen, wont happen or might
happen(ACMSP024)

Students prior knowledge and experience:

-Has been discussed at mat sessions about possible/impossible

Learning purpose:
-Students are exposed to the language Possible and Impossible
-Recognizes and describes the element of chance in familiar activities
-Describes possible outcomes in everyday situations
-Predicts what might occur during the next lesson in class or in the near future

Learning objectives:
On completion of this lesson,
students will be able to:
-Understand the language possible and
Impossible
-Able to recognize and describe the element
of chance in familiar activities

Evaluation:
-Asking students questions such as, why do
you think this is possible or impossible,
would this be likely to happen or unlikely to
happen (It is possible that it could rain
today, but unlikely as it is a sunny day).
-ability folders are also used to evaluate the
students, the folders have a page with the
groups names and in the column you have to
write the students ability level from 0-3.

Preparation and Resources:

-Create A-3 possible and impossible work sheets and the cut and glue worksheet (made on
Microsoft word)
-Set up tables ready for activity
On the tables students will need
-Scissors
-Glue
-both worksheets

Catering for diversity

-This activity caters for students at a year one level as well as the students that are still at a
foundation level.
-The Education Assistant will be in each group with the lower level students to monitor and
help the students (the education assistant will modify the task for them as she sees fit).
