For years, weve known anecdotally that homes with solar power systems have sold

similar homes without solar.
Now theres proof. According
to a study conducted by the

U.S. Department of Energys

Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, owning your solar system increases your homes
resale value by an average
of $15,000. In the most comprehensive research project
done to date, 22,000 homes
in eight states were studied
from 1999 through 2013 and
the conclusion was clear: in
addition to all savings, purchasing solar now will allow
you to sell your home for a

Its the season for

Bishops Pumpkin Patch

visits

By Carol Feineman
Lincoln View

Theres quite a lot of new activities at Bishops Pumpkin Farm

this year, according to Meghan
Bishop, the human resource and
events manager there.
The Wheatland attraction for
all ages is celebrating its 43rd
season this month. The 60-plus
acre farm opened in 1973 and
includes petting zoos, zip line,
kids activities, corn maze, hay
rides, sunflower labyrinth and,
of course, pumpkins for sale.
For starters, we have new food
items such as pulled pork sandwich and on Wednesdays, we
have special treats such as sea

salt caramel apple, Bishop said.

We also have fireworks every
Friday in October. We have a new
outdoors wedding venue (El Rancho Del Amor open spring and
summer) that can be seen from
the train ride.
This years logo for the corn
maze is the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
On the second weekend (Sept.
26 and Sept. 27), Make-A-Wish
Foundation gets half the proceeds from corn maze ticket
sales, Bishop said.
Also on Sept. 27, the annual
Run Your Gourd Off 5K starts at

Visitors should plan on spending the whole day at the farm, according to Bishop, and they can

baked goods.
Bishop recommends visiting

Since the Pottery World Caf reopened July

11, the Mediterranean style restaurant has seen
a steady stream of repeat customers, according
to interim Caf manager Chris Holcomb.
A family-run operation since 1971, the
Rocklin-based business, which first opened
in 2005, closed in February for an expansion,
said the companys marketing assistant, Amy
Hume.
The companys El Dorado Hills store
opened in 2010.
The restaurants new makeover is reminiscent of a European wine cellar, Hume said.
Brick walls, rich wood and copper-glazed
concrete floors, showcased with low lighting,
all enhance this feeling, she said.
It feels intimate but not small. Finishing
details like ornate chandeliers and custom
floral arrangements from our in-house floral
designers really make the caf a unique place
in the region, Hume said.
Customers enjoy the opportunity to dine
and shop at the same location, according to
Hume.

Featured Business... MR. PICKLES

An interview with Mr. Pickles:
Q: What makes Mr. Pickles sandwiches so
delicious?
A: Some say our sandwiches are so outstanding
because we only use fresh baked breads and high
quality meats (sliced daily), but the secret is the
everything selection which includes your choice
of mayo, mustard, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato,
peppers, onions and P-I-C-K-L-E-S (wink, wink).
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Green.

Now accepting new patients

The Lincoln Medical Practice
announces the opening of its
medical suite at 89 Lincoln Blvd,
Lincoln off the old Highway 65.
Continuing the legacy of Dr.
Moore, Lincoln Medical Practice
will continue to see Moores patients and is now accepting new
patients. Walk-ins are welcome.
Three seasoned medical practitioners have teamed up to offer
patients internal medicine and
gerontology/geriatrics/medical
house call specialty medical expertise and comprehensive services in one convenient location.
This partnership strengthens
the mission to provide focused
care to the Lincoln-area community. The office offers patients
Medicare-covered benefits, including annual physicals, trigger
point injections, Botox, skin tag
removals and EKGs.
The providers are headed by Dr.
Sarala Ghanapuram, an internal
medicine specialist who trained
with the University of Nevada in
Reno and has practiced in differ-

ent settings including ER and ICU.

Ghanapuram has connections
with sub-specialists in the area,
such as cardiology and nephrology.
Dr. Ravi Chintakindi is an internal medicine specialist who has extensive office practice experience
as well as in skilled care and longterm care facilities. Chintakindi
has admitting privileges at Sutter
Roseville Medical Center, which
improves the admission process
with less wait time at the ER.
Ron Ordona NP focuses on the
care of homebound seniors and
sees patients either at the clinic
or on a medical house call. Ordona has extensive experience with
long term and chronic care, including dementia. He works parttime at UC Davis Medical Center.
Visit the office on Oct. 15 for the
ribbon-cutting event with the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce.
Visit LincolnMedicalPractice.
com or call 434-8800. For inquiries regarding medical house
calls, contact 543-1593 or visit SeniorCareClinic.org.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month

W

hat is dental hygiene? It

is brushing and flossing your teeth properly to maintain oral health and
well-being.
Many people dont realize that
your oral health can affect your
overall health. The bacteria in
your mouth can circulate into
your system and bloodstream.
Too much bacteria, especially
from infected teeth due to decay
or gums from periodontal disease, can actually weaken your
body.
In some cases, the bacteria
promote clots in your arteries,
which can lead to heart attacks.
So how to do you prevent this?
Proper oral hygiene.

Dr. eloisa
espiritu

That means brushing at least

twice a day and flossing once a
day. Also, it means getting regular cleanings every three to six
months, depending on the condition of your gums. Healthy
gums get cleanings every six
months.
If you have periodontal disease, it can be every three to four
months, based on your dentists
recommendation.
When you brush, make
sure to angle the bristles at
a 45-degree angle to your
gum line and brush
with light pressure in a circular motion.
If you brush
too hard, you
can scrape your
gums off, which is irreversible.

We now provide Pulsed

Electromagnetic Field Therapy!!
Used for acute & chronic pain management!
Can aid in the
treatment of:
Soft tissue and/or
orthopedic injuries
Wound Healing
Inflammation
Post Surgical Healing
Osteoarthiritis

When you floss, lightly glide the

floss in a C shape on both sides of
each tooth, going below the gums.
This will help remove bacteria that
cause gum disease and prevent
cavities from forming between
your teeth where the toothbrush
cant reach.
The America Dental Association
recommends using a fluoridated

SunPower

by Hooked On Solar
A lot is changing in the solar
world but the biggest change,
besides PG&E rates continuing to escalate, is that PG&E is
about to change the way they
pay for the power coming
from your solar system.
You probably heard, A solar system on your roof spins
your meter backwards. What
this means is that when your
system is generating power,
your home uses all it can and
the extra power produced is
sent back to the grid. This
spins your meter backward
and the extra power is credited at retail pricing to your
account to reduce your bill.

This solar program is called

Net Energy Metering or NEM.
PG&E is changing the NEM
to NEM2, simply put. When
the change comes, PG&E will
no longer give those going solar retail pricing for the extra
power they produce. It will
be at wholesale pricing. This
will make more money for
PG&E but unfortunately will
cut way back on the savings
coming from your solar.
If you are considering going solar, dont wait; do it
now! NEM2 is predicted to
come this spring. The hearings are already scheduled
for December. If you install

CAN HELP
your solar system prior to the
change, you will be grandfathered into the existing program and be protected for 20
years. This will only enhance
the value of solar already installed. Those installing solar after the change will be
under the new rules.
Come into your only locally-owned and operated SunPower by Hooked On Solar
Lincoln Design Center (located in the Raleys shopping
center) to learn more about
NEM and how it will affect
you. Bring in your energy bill,
get a free quote and we will
give you a $25 gift card.
