Sixth Grade Guidelines

ATTENDENCE: Children must attend school daily to ensure they
learn the academic and social concepts and skills they will need
next year, in high school and beyond. Students are able to enter
the building at 7:30 am and instruction begins promptly at 7:35
am. If your child is absent due to illness, please notify the office
before school begins (if possible). Please notify us if your child will
be absent for an extended period of time or has a prearranged
absence (example: doctors appointment). Students are
responsible for all missed assignments.
USE OF RESTROOM DURING CLASSTIME: Unless it is an
emergency or special circumstance, all students will be expected
to use restroom during our assigned break times.
HOMEWORK POLICY: THE GOAL IN 6TH GRADE IS THAT ALL
WORK IS COMPLETED ON TIME!
Science and Math will be given out Tuesdays and Thursdays
and must be returned the following day.
Literature and Social Studies will be given out Mondays and
Wednesdays and must be returned the following day.
Our goal is that each child:
~ Attempts every assignment;
~ Turns it in on time;
~ Shows effort.
FAILING GRADES: If your child receives a BA or MI on an
assignment he/she has the opportunity to re-do or fix the

assignment for a better grade. It is your childs responsibility to

let the teacher know that he/she would like to re-do the
assignment. The due date will be determined by the teacher at
the time the re-do request is made. Our goal is for students to
learn the concept and skills they do not understand.

BEHAVIOR: Our expectation is that all students follow the

MSLS PBIS Expectations as well as our classroom rules.
Both classrooms will emphasize a positive behavior plan that will
allow your child to achieve the best possible education where
he/she feels safe and is able to experience academic success.
Our discipline policy is based on an understanding of mutual
respect. If there are individual difficulties, we will work closely
with the parents and students to ensure that the learning
environment continues to be a positive place for everyone.
We are utilizing a classroom management tool called Class Dojo.
You are able to login and track your childs behavior once we have
your email address. They are able to earn points throughout the
day for positive behavior but can also lose points. Twice a month
students will have the opportunity to cash in their points for a
reward of their choice.
In case a student makes poor choices, the following steps will be
taken:
a. A warning will be given.
b. The teacher will use proximity and non-verbal cues to attempt to redirect
behavior.
c. The teacher will conference with the student individually.
d. The 6th grade team will conference with the student.
e. The 6th grade team will contact you to conference with us and the student.
f. The middle school team will conference with the student.
g. Office (visit with the Principal)

Supplies:

All of the supplies listed on the Milwaukee Public Schools list are
needed. It is important to check with your student throughout the
year to replenish any supplies needed.
We would welcome any additional supplies such as tissues, paper
towels, etc. as those items are used frequently.
If you have any questions about sixth grade guidelines please feel
free to contact us.
Thank you,
Mrs. Buckley
Ms. Kueter

6th Grade Class Trip

This year we are planning a class trip for the end of the
year. While we cant share all the details just yet we want
to start earning money to off-set the cost. So 6th Grade is
having a bake sale and selling hotdogs at Open House!
Open House is September 23rd 5pm-7pm.

WE need your HELP!!

If you and your child could please donate an item to be

sold. It could be homemade or store bought. It would be
best if your child brought the item to school with them so
we could have it set up before open house begins.

We also need 2-3 students and a parent to help work the

table.

Please send the bottom portion of this paper back noting

what you can donate and if you are able to assist at the
Open House.

We will be donating
