Essay #1: The Narrative Essay


A narrative essay tells a story about a personal experience. A story includes particular
elements:

exposition (characters, setting, etc.)


climax (the highest point of action, typically where a shift takes place)
conflict (a problem or obstacle that must be overcome)
resolution (the problem must be resolved, but not necessarily solved)
Assignment: In this assignment you will write a 3-4 page narrative essay based on the
various prompts discussed during our in-class brainstorming. The story must read like a
personal narrative, though, if you so choose, it may be partially or entirely fictional.

Requirements:
Rough draft will be submitted in the form of a hard copy and shared with the professor via
Google docs
Final draft will be shared with the professor via Google docs and published to your website
(You will create a page on your website designated to your formal writing)
3 - 4 pages in length, 12-pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced, MLA format

Deadlines for ENG 101-101:


Draft #1: Tuesday, October 6th
Final Draft: Tuesday, October 13th
