THE LINCOLN VIRTUAL REALITY WELDERS ARE

IMPRESSIVE PIECES OF EQUIPMENT, AND ARE
ALREADY HAVING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE
WAY WE TEACH OUR STUDENTS
Islwyn Williams, Welding Lecturer, Coleg Menai

Welcome to LincED
Lincoln Electric has a long tradition of providing welder skills training, with over
a century of welding manufacturing experience to draw upon. The J F Lincoln
Arc Welding Foundation was set up over 70 years ago to provide education and
training to welding apprentices on the 'art and science of arc welding' in the U.S.
Recognising that investment in welder training is crucial to the future success of
our industry, LincED represents Lincoln Electric UKs long term commitment to
building and maintaining relationships with education and training providers
across the country.
In addition to this, we are pleased and proud to provide support to Find a
Future, Skillweld & AFTWE organisations, in their endeavours to support the
development of the next generation of UK welders. Through national skills
competitions and educational events such as the Skills Show, every year they
help to inspire and encourage young people in a wide variety of different
disciplines.
We hope you find LincED of interest and look forward to discussing what we can
do to help you develop and educate the welding skills of the future.

WHY CHOOSE LINCOLN ELECTRIC?

Lincoln Electric have supported both
our apprentice training and adult CPD
courses. They have frequently
provided us with behind the scenes
support in terms of service, sales,
suggestion of consumables and
knowledge, and have also invited us to
demonstration and training sessions.
Their teacher packs have been
invaluable to me as a trainer, as it can
be very hard to source good quality
training material that is engaging yet
informative and well presented. The
poster packs have took pride of place
within our workshops, and are
referred to constantly by the learners.

Lincoln Electric have supported

the Fabrication & Welding
department here at the Grimsby
Institute with a variety of
learning resources. Tutors have
enjoyed using Lincoln Electrics
teacher toolkit and learners have
commented on how informative
the educational posters are. Our
learners recognise Lincoln Electric
as a leading authority on all
things welding and regularly visit
their website for information to
help with their studies.

We chose Lincoln because we want

our learners to benefit from utilising
industry standard equipment.
Lincolns training facilities are
excellent, as well as their ongoing
support. The educational package
that we received with the equipment,
including; banners, posters, plus
PPE, is a great advantage that
Lincoln has over their competitors.

We choose Lincoln because we

believe them to be the leading
manufacturer of arc welding and
cutting equipment, continually
introducing new products,
technology and innovations.
Furthermore, Lincoln have
kindly supported our apprentices
by sponsoring awards for the last
3 years.

Wayne Harling, Mechanical Engineering

Lecturer, Prestons College / iSTEM Centre

Ray Peet, Deputy Head of Learning Advanced

Technologies, Chesterfield College

The support and training by all the

team at Lincoln has been second to
none - from the time we went to
Sheffield for a demonstration of both
the VRTEX 360 and VRTEX Mobile
unit to the continuing on-site
training and provision of welding
related posters that are of the
highest standard.

Having previously used Lincoln

machines in my last department I
knew they were reliable and capable
machines. I particularly liked the
ease at which inexperienced users
can set up the machines. A good
relationship and after sales care
were also an important factor.

THE JAMES F LINCOLN

FOUNDATION
The James F. Lincoln Arc Welding
Foundation is a non-profit, welding
education organisation, founded in 1936
to promote welding as a better method of
joining metals and to promote welding as
a career choice.
To this day it remains the only
organisation in the United States
dedicated to educating the public about
the art and science of arc welding.

WE WROTE THE BOOK

ON WELDING
Founded when the industry was in its
infancy, the James F Lincoln Foundation
has now been publishing for nearly eight
decades. It all began with the publication
of the Procedure Handbook, which is
commonly referred to as the Bible of the
welding and fabrication industry. Now on
its fourteenth edition, over 500,000 copies
have been printed since its original
publication.

As the industry has evolved, the

Foundation has also published countless
titles keeping teachers and welding
professionals alike up-to-speed with the
latest techniques and knowledge.
Choose from a selection of more than 20
publications currently available, with
popular titles including: The Procedure
Handbook, New Lessons in Arc Welding,
Principles in Industrial Welding and How
to Read Shop Drawings.

COVERING THE BASICS - EDUCATIONAL POSTER PACKS

Our educational poster packs are ideal for
display in either workshop and classroom
environments. Each set comprises of 15x
posters providing useful reference points
on fundamental topics such as: Welding
Processes (SMAW, GTAW, SAW and
GMAW & FCAW), Fume Hood Positions,
Why Welds Crack, Weld Discontinuities,
Parts of a Weld, Effects of Welding
Variables, Typical Weld Joints, Sections
and Symbols, Welding Positions and
Personal Protective Equipment.

NO TEACHER LEFT BEHIND

Being aware that not all education
providers have large budgets available for
numerous supplementary training aids,
No Teacher Left Behind has been created
to provide a comprehensive and complete
training package.
The six disc package includes safety
information, MS PowerPoint
presentations, instructor lesson plans,
student notes as well as pre & post-tests,
troubleshooting guides, supporting
documents and video clips for the
following welding processes:Shielded
Metal, Flux Cored, Gas Metal, Gas
Tungsten, Submerged, and Oxy Fuel.

NEXT GENERATION TRAINING

E-LEARNING
Not every learner is the same and we
understand that increasingly more and
more people choose to learn by doing, as
well as by studying. For this reason the

AN EXCITING NEW REALITY - VRTEX VIRTUAL WELDING

Virtual reality welding provides students
with an opportunity to try welding in a
way that is fun, exciting and engaging.
Removing the traditional dangers
associated with welding, the VRTEX 360
and VRTEX Mobile virtual reality welders
have been designed to make welding more
accessible, in a safe and practical way.
Providing a perfect platform for beginners
and experienced welders alike, VRTEX
virtual welders allow students to learn
and hone their skills before heading into
the workshop. As virtual reality welding
does not require base material, shielding
gas, welding electrodes and other
consumables, or require weld fume

removal, training costs can be greatly

reduced by using blended training
schemes, combining both virtual and
traditional teaching methods.
Studies at Ohio State University have
shown that students on blended courses
often learn and achieve certification
quicker than students who rely solely on
traditional teaching methods.
LincED can provide advice on which
virtual reality system is best for your
students, as well as arranging practical
demonstrations at either your campus or
at our Sheffield based showroom.

CELEBRATING SUCCESS - SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Each year we are proud to celebrate the success of
welding and fabrication students across the UK.
As part of this commitment, we regularly sponsor
a number of annual awards ceremonies. In 2015,
we provided prizes at the following ceremonies:
Chesterfield College Advanced Apprentice of
the Year
Hull College School of Engineering Best
progression on a Fabrication & Welding course
East Kilbride Group Training Association Skill
