This past summer, I had the pleasure to work with Lauren as her supervisor at Camp Marian YMCA Day Camp in Milwaukee. This was Lauren’s first year as a Day Camp Counselor and over the course of the summer she displayed characteristics of an exceptional educator. Lauren is incredibly passionate about working with children and her enthusiasm for teaching came through with her always positive attitude. She created detailed, age appropriate weekly lesson plans, displayed all the core values the YMCA strives to uphold; Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility, and developed meaningful connections with all of her campers. She was friendly and welcoming to all the parents and children that came to camp. During this time, Lauren worked with other counselors and staff to create a positive environment of learning. In addition to our Traditional Camp weeks, Lauren effectively ran multiple Specialty Camps which included Diva Camp and Bug Camp. She was able to prepare week long Specialty Camps in which she was able to share her interests with campers. Her skilled time management and planning allowed for successful camps with very positive feedback from campers and families. Lauren’s camp background brings many different things to her teaching. She is one of our counselors who outshone the rest of the team, and was constantly engaging campers to keep them focused and on task. She led a variety of activities and played countless games with the campers and kept a positive attitude throughout the summer. It has been such a blessing to have a counselor as dedicated and diligent as Lauren, and I know that she will be just as innovative and fun in her future teaching endeavors. am proud to recommend Lauren Checker for any teaching position.
