Math Homework Tips for Parents:

Embrace the challenge: math isnt an ability we are born with; it is something that we work hard at and
practice to develop over time.
Have your child show you the way they learned in class, talking through the steps.
Share how they are learning it is different from and similar to the way you learned it.
Encourage your child to talk out the math using the math words they are learning.
Resist the urge to do it for themask questions that help you find out what they understand.
For example:
o Tell me what you do understandthen tell me what part is confusing.
o As you work out this problem, explain your thinking out loud so I can understand.
