III. Valued Outcomes

Students will define what vitamins are.

Students will name the different kinds of vitamins and their functions for the body.

Students will name different foods that provide the vitamins that the body needs.

IV. Description of Strategy

1. I will start the lesson by introducing to the students what the plan for the class is. I
will ask questions about what they know about vitamins and foods that have the
different kinds. I will then introduce the material through a powerpoint and
elaboration on the slides. In the powerpoint, I will talk about what a vitamin is, watersoluble and fat-soluble vitamins, and the different types of foods that contain these
essential vitamins.
2. I will then test student knowledge with a moving matching activity. Each student will
get a notecard with a function of a specific vitamin on it. We will move as a class to
the gym to make more space for the activity. The students will have to find other
people that have notecards with functions for that same vitamin. Once together, the
students will come up with a food or two that contains their specific vitamin.
3. Once this is complete, giving students about five minutes to do all this, we will go
around and the students will read their functions along with the food that contains
their vitamin and the rest of the class will have to guess what the vitamin is. If there
is any confusion, we will go over as a class that specific vitamin again. To make it
easier to check, each vitamins functions are a specific color, though the students will
not know this before the activity.
4. Finally, we will return to the classroom and if time, address any questions or
confusions that students had during the activity or lecture.

V. Materials Needed

notecards with description of vitamin functions

VI. Formative Evaluation

Student was able to find other students who had notecards with their same vitamins
functions.

Student was able to name one food that contains their specific vitamin.

Students were able to guess their classmates vitamins after the activity.

VII. Points of Emphasis

Emphasize the importance of consuming foods that contain vitamins, as the body cannot
make enough vitamins that is necessary for the proper function of the body.

Explain the different functions of the vitamins, as they are important for many different
parts of our body.

Emphasize the difference between fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins and that we
dont need to eat fat-soluble vitamins every day as they are stored until needed but we
need to eat water-soluble vitamins every day as we excrete the excess.

Explain different foods that contain the vitamins so students know how to get their
important daily vitamins.
