Course Description
The purpose for College Board
Advanced Placement courses is to
prepare students for college work
and AP exams that give students
the opportunity to receive
college credit. At Roosevelt High
School, we have an openenrollment AP program.
Typically, successful AP students
are task-oriented, are proficient
readers, are able to prioritize
their time, and have parental
support.
AP courses are different from the
regular high school courses in
that they are taught with
curricula that include guidelines
from the College Board
representing upper division high
school expectations and
containing sophisticated reading.
Our purpose is to critically
evaluate how a writer uses the
language to create their
argument. The content is not
selected for pleasure reading, but
rather to create more informed
citizens. Reading selections may
change as new current issues
arise.
Other characteristics of AP
courses include content
immersion, a fast pace, and
performance assessed at the
analysis, synthesis, and
evaluation levels.
