Walk with us as we simulate a woman's journey through breast cancer
diagnosis and treatment. Our guide is Fran Robinson, a registered nurse
fand nurse navigator a nurse who will help you find your way. Joni found
‘a suspicious lump during a bre examination, She took quick action
knowing that early detection improves the chances that breast cancer cam
be diagnosed at ax early stage and treated successfully -
Joni made an appointment with her primary care physician who
‘calmed her fears and advised, “Let's do some tests and get good infor-
‘mation. I will refer you to specialists, and we will take it one step at a
time." Joni then met with Robinson at San Juan Regional Medical
Center. Fran took all the time needed to address Joni’s anxious
thoughts and to answer her questions about treatment and recovery
A diagnostic mammogram, followed by a biopsy, confirmed Joni had
breast cancer. An appointment witha local surgeon was scheduled.
ur surgeons are highly accredited and fantastic, in my
ansaid. "You can have full confidence in any one of them.”
In her Breast Cancer 101 class, Fran told Joni what to expect the day
of the surgery along with dressing and drain care. They talked about
treatment options, which may include radiation or chemotherapy and
sometimes both, The ladies discussed different types of cancer,
