Conference for 1 Million Climate Jobs
Third Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union Conference Saturday 13 March
Following the collapse of the climate talks in Copenhagen, join this not-to-miss conference on the crucial roles of trade unionists and the fight for a million climate jobs. Please circulate widely and send at least one delegate from every branch!
=== Dear Friend, With economic crisis and growing environmental danger, this year's conference Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union conference centres on the demand for "1 million climate jobs". Despite rhetoric over "green jobs" from all the major parties, few jobs have been created that help to reduce carbon emissions. Yet at a time of environmental and economic crisis the argument has never been clearer, creating climate jobs is good for the planet and the economy. Come and hear leading Trade Unionists and environmentalists discuss how we can organise to fight climate change. What do we mean by a "climate job"? What sort of industries will we need to expand? What does the failure at Copenhagen mean for the planet? Speakers from the RMT, PCS, CWU, UCU, TSSA and FBU will discuss the way forward, together with campaigners who have helped to organise campaigns and demonstrations over the climate. Hear from the Vestas workers about their struggle to stop the closure of the wind turbine plant on the Isle of Wight. The conference is being organised on a teach-in structure, so there will be plenty of opportunity for delegates to debate and discuss in the plenaries and workshops. We hope you will book up now.
