Progression report (upon request)

For all those business people who want to reach a personal goal

within a very short period of time and who need German for a

very special purpose, we offer special courses for business Ger-

man. You decide according to your appointment calendar when

you would like to start, how fast you would like to go ahead

and how much time you can effort for training. And you study

whatever topic you need: specialized German for business, me -

dicine or engineering. Within a few days you will be fit using

the German language!

Business German not only for Business People

Do you want to prepare for a special communicative situation

or do you need special vocabulary because you got to visit a

conference or a trade fair? Do you want to give a presenta-

tion in German or did you notice that you generally have prob-

lems finding the right expressions? Don’t worry… with both

our special courses Business German and Business German Plus

you’ll freshen up your knowledge of German in a very short

time – no matter in which context you need to use our lan-

guage. Because a characteristic of both business courses is the

focusing on teaching basic language structures as well as the

practically, goal oriented training of the subject matter you

have defined.

The business German courses are designed as individual instruc-

tion and are focusing directly on improving, refreshing and the

acquisition of specialized and professionally oriented subjects.

You are an engineer and would like to present yourself suc-

cessfully on international conferences? We are going to pre-

pare you for this task and can guarantee you quick results! You

will have the choice between 4 and 12 lessons per day and you

also have the choice – in case you want to take a maximum of

progress at a minimum of time – taking these lessons as a com-

pact course covering one week and 2 full weekends. If you de-

cide for 12 lessons of German instruction per day you can even

expect one of your teachers keeping you company at lunch!

Heidelberg | Endless romance…

It was a summer evening, just twenty I had seen, when I kissed

ruby lips and hair of golden sheen. The night was blue and

blissful, the Neckar flowed pristine, it was then I knew, it was

then I knew, what all to me did mean: I lost my heart in Hei-

delberg… These are the words of the famous Heidelberg song

written by Friedrich Vesely in 1925. And it is still true. The city

of Heidelberg is a city of almost magical attraction for all – not

just lovers. The small, twisted alleys of the old town, the roman-

tic ruins of the castle, the street cafés and students‘ pubs – if

you study with us in Heidelberg, you will learn to speak the Ger-

man language and to enjoy life in Germany. And you will loose

your heart for Heidelberg – that‘s all inclusive!

The castle ruins, the many mansions, churches and town hou-

ses: Everywhere around town you’ll find evidence of the city’s

splendid and magnificent past. However, despite its long tradi-

tion, the Heidelberg of today is a young and cosmopolitan city

with more than 4 million visitors from all over the world every

year! But Heidelberg doesn’t owe its young spirit to the tour-

ists… Heidelberg is such a young city thanks to the more than

30.000 students who study at Germany’s oldest university. They

make living in this city so refreshing. Everywhere you’ll meet the

students of this world-famous university, however, if one of

them is telling you proudly of the 600 years of university tradi-

tion, then you’ll feel that history is still very much alive here…

Activity Program

You won’t be bored coming to Heidelberg in the summertime.

Because during the nicest time of the year – when the old town

is crowded with people from all over the world – it will be hot

here… Three big fireworks will turn Heidelberg at night into a

scenery from a fairy tale in July and August. You’ll be invited

to join us for concerts and theatre performances at the Hei del-

berg Castle Festival. You shouldn’t miss this very special event

since you will be able to practice your knowledge of the Ger-

man language in the magic atmosphere of the castle grounds.

If this trip into the world of arts seems to be too exhausting

for you, you can always relax and enjoy the romantic scenery

of the castle ruins, the Neckar bridge and the old town from

the other river bank.

On excursions and sightseeing trips with our activity guide

you’ll experience how exciting and interesting German cul -

ture can be. With him and your fellow students you will dis -

co ver downtown Heidelberg and look at its famous treasu -

res… the approximately 250 year old gigantic wine barel in

the castle, which can hold 200.000 liters. Or the Stu den ten -

karzer, a former prison for students. Aside from these rather

classical attractions in Heidelberg, we also organize trips to

interesting cities nearby – for instance to Würzburg, Mainz

or Rothenburg. Do you like a change? Then join us on a day

trip to Frankfurt – the busy financial metropolis full of sky-

scrapers, shopping centers and reflecting glass facades.

Accommodation in Apartments

Accommodation in our summer apartments is the ideal choice

for all those students who love to be independent. No mat-

ter whether you stay in a one-room studio or in a multi-room

flat: all apartments are equipped with a kitchen or kitchenette

and though offer the possibility for self-catering. You have the

choice between single and double rooms. If several partici-

pants live in one flat, kitchen as well as bathroom are sha red.

The school can be easily reached by public tran sport in 45

minutes maximum. Please note that participants are respon-

sible for the houseworkand cleaning and have to be at

least 18 years old in order to choose this accommo-

dation option.

Accommodation in Host Families

If you decide to stay with a German host family, you will reach

the school easily by public transportation (bus and/or tram).

The Most host families live in the vicinity or in villages nearby.

Public transportation from and to the city is fast and we

guarantee a maximum travel time to the school of 45 minutes.

Usually, our host families will offer double rooms with break-

fast and dinner. If you decide for accommodation in a host

family you may also rent a single room for a extra charge.

We advise you to make arrangements with the host family

using their washing machine for a small fee or to use a pub-

lic launderette.

Counseling and help with internship preparation

Apply your knowledge of German directly!

Make more of your studies: Optimize your language stay in

Germany and continue your studies after finishing the German

course with an internship at a German company! Here you get

the chance to apply what you’ve just learned in class first hand.

Besides, you gain important work experience that’ll look good

on your CV and increase your career opportunities. There are

2 program varieties: First, a qualified internship position in a

variety of fields such as architecture, book keeping, design or

tourism. For this kind of internship an excellent knowledge of

German language will be required (completed B2 level). If you

intend to get work experience in a hotel or restaurant, reach-

ing the B1 level will be sufficient.

We will try to find you an internship position according to your

professional expertise and interests. However, this might not

always be possible at the particular course location. We also

cannot exactly guarantee that you’ll get an internship posi-

tion at a particular company or in a very specialized field. In

this case we suggest an alternative, i.e. an internship in a relat-

ed professional field. All internships offered will not be paid –

some companies, however, will give you some pocket money!

In case of earlier discontinuance of the internship, the intern-

ship fee will not be reimbursed. For further information con-

cerning registration and application please check on our web-

site under www.did.de

Legal Requirements

Aside from a decent knowledge of the German language

participants will also need the permission of the Central

Employment Office (ZAV) for doing an intern ship in

Germany. As long as participants are between 18 and

26 years of age and citizens of a country that is mem-

ber of the EU we can arrange for an internship posi-

tion that will start after stu dents have finished their

German courses. For all other nationalities the pos-

sibilities for going on internship in Germany are

limited. However, in case you are enrolled at a uni-

versity in your home country as a regular student

and as long as the internship will be related to your

field of studies, the training will usually be permit-

ted. For further information on the Internship Pro-

gram please check under www.did.de

What’s so great about an internship: You live and

work with Germans, this is why you’ll learn quickly to speak flu-

ently and you’ll also learn many things about living in Germany

and the German mentality in general. I was an intern at a ship-

ping company in Munich. From 9 to 5 everyday I was working

in bookkeeping. Since this company handled almost all of their

business contacts via telephone, I gained my know-how of tele-

phone conversations by making countless phone calls. I can re-

commend anybody making this kind of experience.

German for Professionals

Even if you are a teacher there‘s plenty to learn…

Learning never ends… already noticed the great German com-

poser Robert Schumann. And the first German chancellor Otto

von Bismarck also had to admit at old age: I’m learning as

long as I live. Thus, I’m still learning today. We’re not going

to contradict this – on the opposite: Language professionals

as well should constantly improve their knowledge… because

a language is downright living through change! Teachers of

German language will have the opportunity of updating their

knowledge and know-how: What are the latest teaching mate-

rials used in German classes? Are there any new trends and

methods? Come to our institutes and our teachers will give you

all the information you’re asking for…

No matter if you work at a private language institute or a pub-

lic school: Being a professional teacher you always experience

instruction only from the teacher’s point of view! If you decide

taking our Teacher Training course you’re going to play the

student’s part for a change and, thus, you’ll understand how

differently teaching methods will be perceived from the

learner’s point of view. This will be very exciting and will

also enable you to reflect on your own professional situ-

ation for instance by comparing our teaching methods

with your own. Class visitations and discussions with

our teachers will help you doing this. You’ll see: there’s

still quite a lot to learn…

Socrates Program

Information on all state sponsored Socra-
tes Programs is available on our website!

Study German… being a Student

Our German course for teachers covers 26 lessons per week,

divided into 3 instructional stages correlating with one anoth-

er: In this teacher program you will study German language be -

ing a regular student, being an observer and being a critic! At

the first stage you are participating in a Standard Course and

will experience our international classes from a student’s per-

spective. You’ll gain a lot of new impressions about pedagogi-

cal methods. Furthermore, you’ll have time to compare the pe -

dagogical styles of your teachers with your own and to reflect

about the differences. The main thing at this stage, though, is

that you are going to improve your own language competence

by participating in this course.

Study German… being an Observer

In addition to your daily participation in the Standard Course

you can look forward to 4 more lessons per week – however,

this will be in another class with different teachers. Thus, you’ll

have the opportunity to experience and analyze a variety of indi-

vidual pedagogical methods and a large number of very differ-

ent teacher personalities. Your attention will again be focused

on analyzing the test materials, the methods and the general

group dynamics: Is the selection of teaching methods age-relat-

ed? How do you evaluate the use of supplementary materials?

Are materials like audio and video tapes meaningfully integrat-

ed into the instructional context? In this second course stage

you’ll learn, most of all, by observing!

Study German… being a Critic

After class you are going to meet the second stage teacher for

an individual discussion. Here you’ll have the opportunity speak-

ing about pedagogical approaches, educational concepts as

well as the curriculum in particular. Here, at stage 3, your con-

tributions are most important and the experiences you’ve made

will be evaluated. There’s plenty of time for intensive profes-

sional discussions among two experienced colleagues – mean-

ing your German instructor and you, a teacher as well. This

way, you can develop new ideas, talk about new teach-

ing materials and about encouraging intercul-

tural comparison. A final meeting with the

school director will complete the pro-

gram where you’ll go beyond the pe-

dagogical aspect by also gaining in-

sight into the management of a lan-

guage institute such as did. This way,

you’ll get to know the essentials of

our institute in only two

weeks time.

Intensive Courses

You probably know this very typical phrase from both your par-

ents and from school: German is important for your future – so,

make an effort and study your vocabulary! Of course, they’re

right – the German language is important – very much, in fact!

No doubt, it takes an effort to learn German, we, however, are

going to show you first at all: German is such a cool language

and you’ll have lots of fun studying it – no matter what your

German grades at school look like. The reason is: Aside from

grammar and conversation exercises – in our Intensive Course

with 24 lessons per week you and the other 14-17 year olds will

focus on the essentials: The fun it means when you discover a

foreign language and you can suddenly use it actively.

Standard Courses

Do you know Germany only from the pictures in your textbook

and from TV? Then it’s time to think about a summer vacation

with us! Because at did there’s more to discover than just vocab-

ulary and grammar… We are going to show you how people

in Germany live and what’s so special about the country, its

history, culture and tradition. In almost no time you’ll be able

to understand the German mentality and language much bet-

ter. Depending on your age (12-16 and 14-17) you’ll have the

choice between Standard Courses 15 and Standard Courses 20,

i.e. between 15 and 20 lessons per week. And, take it from us:

To discover Germany live is much more fascinating and breath-

taking than your old textbook at home.

Residence Courses

The Residence Course will be an ideal choice for you if you want

to spend as much time as possible with your fellow students

and if you’re looking forward to afternoons full of activity and

sports. You are going to stay in a residence for young people

that will be reserved for you and your course mates. Our staff

will look after you 24 hours a day and make sure that you feel

at home. With 20 or 24 lessons per week you’ll be making fast

progress and can practice German intensively. And also after

class, it’ll never be boring: On the residence grounds you will

find a large area reserved for leisure time activities and sports

such as a soccer field, facilities for basketball, volleyball and ping

pong. And you can already get all this at the age of 8 or 14!

Learning German is boring? This might be true, sometimes, for

German classes in public schools. At did, however, German will

be fun – not only for our students… On the first day of classes

already you’ll notice the different atmosphere at did deutsch-

institut – how refreshingly different and interesting your teach-

ers are going to present the classes. What is the reason? It’s

simple! Our teachers like their jobs and will help you and your

fellow students with all their energy and intuition. So get rea-

dy and have fun studying our language…

Boarding School Program

Do you wish to pass the Abitur, the German High School exam

for being able to study directly and without any other require-

ments at a German university? In this case, our Boarding School

Program will be the ideal choice for you! For many years al ready

we are closely cooperating with a private, state-recognized

boarding school in Bavaria. By passing the Abitur you’ll receive

the German secondary school diploma. In order to pass the ad -

mission test of this high-quality institution we offer a special

preparation course with 24 lessons per week at our year-round

school in Wiesbaden. This way, you can start your new school

career without any problems at all…

Deutsch Privat Program

There are many possibilities to learn a language – you don’t ne -

cessarily have to go to school for that. With the Deutsch Privat

Program you can acquire our language rather casually and in a

familiar, informal atmosphere. Sometimes it is even your host

mother or host father who is taking care of your language les-

sons. If not, the teacher will come to the host family’s home for

instructing you. Now all you got to do is deciding how inten-

sively you want to study German: 10, 15, 20 or 25 lessons per

week? You’ll see – if you decide to learn German with this pro-

gram you are going to master the language almost without

any effort. Being a new member of the family you’ll pick up

both naturally – our language and our traditions.

Group Stays

Do you teach German at a school and do you want to orga-

nize a group or class trip to Germany? That’s a very good idea

– Germany has plenty to offer and there are so many things

worthwhile discovering: For instance Munich and the vicin-

ity… fairy tale castles, medieval monasteries

and crystal clear lakes. Or how about a tour

to romantic Heidelberg – where millions of

visitors every year are spellbound by the

magnificent glory of this historic town.

Exciting, on the other hand, is a tour to

Berlin. Here the city changes from year

to year. Or you might be interested trav-

eling to another destination? Feel free

to ask us: We would like to organize

your students’ stay in Germany in -

dividually – completely according

to your plans and ideas.

This year it will be Germany…

It is always the right time to learn German! Whether you

choose the summer holidays or another time during the year:

In Germany an exciting and new life is waiting for you. More-

over it will be completely different from what you imagine –

completely different from what your German course book told

you. Here in Wiesbaden not only a German course is awaiting

you – a friendly host family is looking forward to meeting you

and has arranged everything to give you a nice home for the

time you stay in Germany.

Make Wiesbaden your town!

When picking the right place to learn German one might not

think about Wiesbaden right away. That is because the first

words you encounter after arriving in Wiesbaden are French or

English including Faites vos jeux, Roulette, Black Jack or Poker.

That’s right – Wiesbaden is the Monte Carlo of Germany. The

town is rich and beautiful, and its Casino is world-famous.

Among those who have tried their luck here are Fjodor Dosto-

jewski, Richard Wagner and Elvis Presley. But with diligence

you can also make a career for yourself here, since Wiesbaden

is a wonderful place to learn German: You’ll find the peace to

work and still are not bored – c’est parfait!

Activity Program

Whether you come to Wiesbaden in summer or another season

and whether you stay a longer or shorter time we’ll bet that

you will like the town! That is because Wiesbaden does not only

offer a lot, it has also just the right size to feel at home after

a short time. To help you familiarizing even faster our activity

guide will take you on discovery tours in town. You will see the

famous Kurhaus, the Theatre, the City Castle and the impres-

sive Market Church. After that we will walk up to the station of

the Neroberg Mountain Railway that will bring you to the Ne-

roberg mountain, 245 meters above sea level, where you have

a magnificent view over Wiesbaden and on top of it lots of fun

– in the nicest outdoor swimming pool of the town.

But also the excursions to places outside of Wiesbaden will not

be boring for you. In the banking metropolis of Frankfurt you

will experience a view from the air – that is from the obser-

vation deck of the 200 meters high Maintower. During

an excursion to the Rhine Valley you will visit a me -

dieval knight’s castle, the Germania monument and

go on a boat trip on the biggest and most famous

German river. The Rhine downstream is anoth-

er destination where we will take you: Co -

logne, a city with a population of over

a million. And again we will go up a

tower – this time to climb the steps on

your own feet. But be assured, the

effort is worth doing it. We are

talking about the bell tower of

the Cologne Cathedral, you will

probably have not seen such a

church before.

Accommodation

Long time before you arrive

your stay will be well prepared

here in Wiesbaden, at the school as well

as at the host family who looks forward to wel-

coming you in Germany. The host family is cho-

sen according to the wishes and information you

entered in the enrollment form. That’s why

it is important to provide us with as much

information about yourself as possible

including eating habits and possible al-

lergies. In order to have a German spea-

king environment also outside of school,

there will be no other participant speak-

ing the same mother tongue as you in your

host family. We will always take care of that.

We also guarantee that from the host family

you will not have to travel more than 45 min-

utes (by bus or train) to the school.

The School

did deutsch-institut in Wiesbaden is located in the town

center – only a few minutes walk from the central

station. Within walking distance from the school

you can reach whatever you want to see in town:

shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cinemas –

everything is just round the corner! The way

from and to your host family is equally con-

venient, because all public transport connec-

tions have a stop at the railway station. The

school occupies the first floor of a modern

building. It has 8 light and spacious class-

rooms, a cafeteria, a media room with TV

and computers as well as a small library with

books and audio-visual media, i.e. cassettes, CDs, DVDs which

you can use for your self-studies – free of charge!

Every year we
look forward to welcoming
guest-students from
did deutsch-institut

The Junghans family, Wiesbaden, host family since 1998

Although the modern city of Frankfurt is only a 40 minutes

city train trip away – there are some good reasons to come to

Wiesbaden: The town with a population of 275,000 is not only

the capital of Hesse, one of the German federal states, but also

one of the most beautiful towns of the region. Only little des-

troyed during the last war the town center impresses with spa-

cious living areas, boulevards and facades in the style of classi-

cism and Art Nouveau. Other than the numerous sights there is

much more to do here: The goEast- and Exgrounds-film Festi-

val, the Apple Tree Blossom Feast and the Wilhelm Street Fes-

ti val, to mention only a few.

Although Aschaffenburg has only a population of 65,000, the

small town on the Main river can be as easily reached as Paris,

London or Rome. That is because it is situated not more than

40 km east of Frankfurt Airport, from where you can go all

over the world or – arrive from all over the world and get to

Aschaffenburg. A journey to the Nice of Bavaria is always a

special experience. The Pompejanum together with the cas-

everywhere in town. In the Renaissance times

Augsburg was a center of architecture, music

Cologne | 1,000,000 inhabitants

You think, it’ll take a long time to speak

German well? You are right, but we can

assure you, that it does not take as much

time as to build a cathedral. 632 years pas-

sed before the construction of the most visit-

ed sight in Germany was finished – that is the

Cologne Cathedral. Today the church is a genuine

attraction. 157 meters high with room for 20,000

people. If we would undertake to build a cathedral

like that nowadays, it would cost 10 billion Euro. The fa -

mous Cologne landmark is also a symbol of the town’s joie

de vivre. The cathedral is surrounded by small lanes with res-

taurants, cafés and clubs. And having an ice-cream in summer

while cooling your feet in the Rhine river is relaxing. The mighty

cathedral towers will provide protection against sunburn.

Standard Course with 20 lessons

You are between 14 and 17 years old and want to do some-

the rest of the family? Then stay with us in Augsburg, Cologne

Nuremberg | 500,000 inhabitants

If it had been popular in medieval ages already to book a lan-

guage course in Germany, Nuremberg would have been the

place to be. Back then the town was considered to be one of

the most beautiful and richest commercial centers in Europe.

What you could not find here, you would not have seen or

found anywhere else either. Of course, since then the town

has changed. Nowadays Nuremberg is a vibrant and modern

big city. But you can still feel the great historical importance of

the town. Numerous magnificent patrician houses, palaces and

churches give evidence of that. It is also a center of sports – no

wonder, since Nuremberg is home to one of the most traditio-

nal German football clubs.

other participants are not perfect either in speaking German.

Additionally, our activity guides together with your numerous

new friends from all over the world will take care that you will

speak German not only in class. Together with them you will

learn our language, in a playful and rather natural way…

Höchst | The City

Höchst is not only difficult to pronounce, it is also easily con-

fused with a precinct of Frankfurt bearing the same name that

is known for its pharmaceutical industry. Höchst in the Oden-

wald mountain area has nothing in common with a big city – on

the contrary! The romantic town with a population of 10,000

is situated in the middle of the Odenwald, a low mountain

range near Frankfurt, and is surrounded by forests, timber-

framed farm estates and medieval castles. And still, in summer

the place brims with life, when young people from more than

60 countries come together in a former medieval monastery to

learn German and discover Germany with us.

Don‘t forget!

You are provided with bed linen – you only have to bring

Double Room | Höchst Residence

Höchst | The Residence (8 to 14 years)

Our residence in Höchst is located in a former medieval mon-

astery that serves as a conference center for the Protestant

Church during the rest of the year. In summer it is all yours

and your friends’. For the summer months July and August did

deutsch-institut rents the whole place that includes classrooms,

bedrooms and a big assembly hall as well as leisure rooms and

a large park. There are facilities for playing football, basket

ball, for having barbecues or simply lying lazily in the sun. The

three and four bedrooms are very comfortable. There are bath-

rooms with WC and showers on every floor. And for taking

care of our participants, there is a room for a person in charge

on every floor.

Berlin | The City

Learning German is nowhere more exciting than in Berlin! The

German Capital has developed within only a few years again

to a genuine metropolis. Berlin is certainly not beautiful, not

elegant and glamorous – but it is cool and trendy, full of vari-

ety and so refreshingly different that you have to experience

it yourself when you want to understand why it is attractive to

so many people. If you decide for one of our Residence Courses

in Berlin you will not only see a fascinating world metropolis,

but you will also get the opportunity to meet people from the

most different nations and cultural backgrounds. What could

be more fun than discovering Berlin together with your new

friends you have made while studying German!

Berlin | The Residences (12 to 16 and 14 to 17 years)

There is hardly a more exciting place to learn the German lan-

guage than the German capital. For this very reason we offer

even two residence courses for juniors in Berlin: the Residence

Course Prenzlauer Berg, a vivid neighbourhood in the heart of

the city, for the age group 14 to 17 and for the youngest group

of students – those of the age 12 to 16 – the Residence Course in

Lichterfelde. The Lichterfelde course has not only facilities for

many indoor activities, but also a big garden with a nice bar-

becue area. Being located in a protected green neighbourhood

does not mean, though, it is far out of town. You can get to

Brandenburg Gate in less than 20 minutes. Again,

anyone preferring to be in the thick of hustle

and bustle of the metropolis, should opt for

the Residence Course in Prenzlauer Berg.

Hintersee | The City

The residence in Hintersee is embed -

ded in a fetching and captivating

natural land scape at the foot of

Germa ny’s third highest moun-

tain and located directly on the

waterside. The nearby village of

Ramsau with a population of ap -

proximately 1.800 can be reach-

ed by bus within 10 minutes. In

the village ice cream parlors, little

shops and cafés can be visited. If

you continue the bus ride for an -

other 15 minutes, the world famous

Königssee and the city of Berchtesga -

den will be reached. In Berchtesgaden

there is much to discover and to experi -

ence: a gondola ride, a jouney to the un -

derground world of a saltmine and a boat

trip on the flowery lake Königssee.

Hintersee | The Residence (12 to 16 years)

The residence in Hintersee offers enough space for classrooms,

accommodation and free time activities. There are a gym and

2 bowling alleys on the premises. The fact that the Hintersee

Residence has its own rowing boats as well as canoes and

kayaks is especially attractive for you. The triple and four bed -

rooms all have their own bathroom facilities with

shower and WC. All the rooms are decorated in

alpine style and offer a high comfort. From

the dining hall you will have a fantastic

view on the mountain panorama. You

can be sure that this residence will

fascinate you entirely!

you cannot attend the final year and participate in the High

School exam – Abitur. If you want to complete the Secondary

school examination in Germany you may attend a private

school. We cooperate very well with a private high school

in Potsdam, where our students may pass the Abitur. They

live with selected host families. Attendance of a private high

school is also possible in other cities.

Program Requirements

The most important requirement for attending a German high

school is a good knowledge of German language. To be able to

follow the tuition in all subjects you should have at least the

knowledge complying to level B2. You will have to prove your

German proficiency in a written language test before your

arrival. If your knowledge does not yet meet the requirements,

we recommend to attend an Intensive German Course in one

of our language schools. You will find detailed information

from page 36. Furthermore you should be inde pendent, flex-

ible and have both the ability and the intention to adjust to

new surrounding and an unfamiliar life situation without any

problems.

Program Period and Acknowledgment

Depending on different holiday regulations of the German

fe deral states, a school year starts in August respectively

Sep tember. In order to provide us with enough time to pre-

pare your school attendance the deadline for your enroll-

ment is the 15th of May. If you would like to apply

for only one term of the school year, the deadline

is the 15th of May for the first term or

the 15th of November, respective ly,

if you wish to attend the school star -

ting in January. Please note that we

can only process complete appli cation

documents. These include an assess ment

test providing us with information about

your language level beforehand. The ne -

cessary forms you can get from one of our

partner agencies or directly at www.did.de.

In case you have any questions concerning

your application for this program, please con-

tact us any time.

It is equally possible to attend a German school as a

guest for only 2 or 3 months. In this case the same

deadlines both for enrollment and starting dates of

the program apply. According to different holiday

periods in the federal states, a whole school term lasts

10 or 11 months, half a school term 5 to 7 months. The

stay always includes the appropriate vacation period.

After passing the High School Program successfully you

will receive a certificate of attendance or diploma. However,

you should make inquiries about the guidelines for acknowl-

edgement of the High School Program in your own country

and at your school before you apply and provide us with the

respective information.

Local Assistance, Accommodation and Insurance

During your stay in Germany you will live with a carefully se -

lected host family, where you will soon feel at home. This is

because you will be a full member of the family from the very

beginning and you’ll be fully integrated in the family life. Cer-

tainly, you will have the same rights, however, you will also have

the same duties as young Germans of the same age and you

have to respect the family rules. If at the beginning of your stay

you have the feeling that you will not get along very well with

your host family, you have the option to change the accommo-

dation. Most of our families live in quiet neighborhoods on the

outskirts of the city or in nearby villages. Convenient transport

connections to the school are guaranteed.

Your local did-organizer will assist you, regarding any problem

that may arise concerning your school attendance, your host-

family or other questions. He or she will welcome you at your

arrival or shortly afterwards and will always be at your dispos-

al with help and advice during your whole stay. In addition the

organizer will schedule regular meetings with you. For legal

reasons we will take out an insurance for you covering ill-

ness, accident and personal liability. The price for this insur-

ance is not included in the program fee, but the conclusion is

compulsory. Since this insurance is valid also in the other states

within the European Union, you can travel to these countries

without having to worry about being insured.
