The Rules are subject to change up to the day of the event at the organisers discretion based on
unforeseen changes to the situation, such as location access, river level, safety etc.
All competitors must sign in and pay entry fees on the 4th December during the registration. No entry
fees = no competing. Entry fees must be paid in cash only.
The decisions by the organisers on all matters relating to the Festival are final.
All competitors compete completely at their own risk and should understand that the competition
and the organisers are in no way responsible for the paddlers’ safety during any part of the
competition. There will be some level of safety provided by volunteers, but all competitors are
expected to provide safety when not competing.
All competitors must use a standard production creek boat for the Slalom, Lower Tana Race and
Boatercross. Competitors may use playboats or creekboats for the Mission Showdown.
Competitors should all have proper equipment, this includes: good helmets, buoyancy aids that have
sufficient floatation, floatation within boats, and a throw bag.
Although we are encouraging a good weekend, no competitor will be allowed to compete intoxicated!
Transport to and from Savage Wilderness Camp to events will be organised. If you miss the time, we
will not wait.

The race will start below the crag rapid. Competitors will be asked to walk down below the crag to
start
All competitors will race in pairs. Due to the dangerous nature of this section and the lack of safety
cover. At least one member of the pair must have paddled this section before and it is highly highly
recommend that both team members are familiar with this section. Please allow time to arrive early
to scout/paddle this section before the event.
In addition with the above safety equipment, each pair should carry a first aid kit, and equipment
require to remove a potential pinned boat.
You must be an experienced paddler and able to deal with this section
Pairs must arrive at the finish within 15 seconds of one another
Once the water level is determined there could be compulsory changes to lines on several rapids.
Shauns nemesis, Rat run, The Big hole and Ski ramp.

BOATER CROSS

Kiosk to flat section below Fisheye (public access)
Open to intermediate kayakers
Depending on number of people this will be heats of 4-6
Heat size and compulsory lines may be changed dependent on water level to ensure safety through
Captains Folly – Can of Worms – Flexor.
The top 2 from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with two wildcard spaces for the next best
finisher
The winning 2 from each semi-final will progress to the final.

SPASM SLALOM

Missing a gate, going through a gate upside down, or in the wrong direction is a 50 second penalty.

Touching a gate is a 5 second penalty
Each paddler has two runs, with their best time being used for ranking.

MISSION SHOWDOWN

Three runs of the mission waterfall to be taken at any time during the event time period
Competitors must stay in the pool below the waterfall until another paddler has made their way
down, for safety
Scoring will be conducted by a Panel chosen by the organisers. Each run will be given a score from 110 by each judge. The bigger you go, the more points you get. We encourage old school burning
mans, paddles throws, paddle twirls etc. ‘New moves’ will also score highly.
This event will be weighted when combining scores to determine the overall winner. This weighting
will be half that of the other events.
