Township’s policy committee reviews policies From Staff Reports BIG RAPIDS TWP. — Big Rapids Township’s policy and procedural committee started work on creating policies for the township at its meeting Wednesday afternoon. The committee, which consists of Joanne Brown, Bonnie Clark, Joe Spedowski, Clerk Sherri Gilbert, Trustee David Hamelund and Supervisor Maxine McClelland, met to review samples of established policies from the Michigan Township Association and other townships that they can use as templates. Brown said the committee plans to get policies in place that the township will abide by. “It really isn’t to step on anybody’s toes. We’re just trying to go forward and make business better for the township,” Brown said. The committee also designated Hamelund as the committee chairperson. The committee’s next meeting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on April 21 at Isabella Bank’s board room. The public is invited to attend. Fremont man dies in crash DAYTON TWP. — A Newaygo County man died on Wednesday as a result of a motorcycle and pick-up crash. Michigan State Police in Newaygo County said Lorren Meyers, 59, of Fremont, was traveling on a motorcycle on Ramshorn Drive just north of Fremont. He may have crossed the center line while making a turn, causing a crash with a pick-up truck driven by 56-year-old Joseph Moon, of Fremont. Meyers was pronounced dead at the scene. Moon was uninjured in the crash. Police do not know if

alcohol played a role in the accident. The crash is under investigation. Troopers were assisted on the scene by Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office, Life EMS, Fremont First Responders and members of the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Posse. Recognizing and Treating Alcohol Problems (NewsUSA) - While some 18 million Americans suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence, only one in eight receives treatment. Poor diagnosis may play a role in people being undertreated, but there are a growing number of tools to help people assess and understand whether they have alcohol problems. One of the latest tools is a new government Web site called “Rethinking Drinking,” which, through a 20-question assessment, is designed to determine whether your drinking patterns are safe, risky or harmful. Launched and supported by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) division, the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) web site features a selfassessment test that is completely confidential and anonymous. Medications for Alcohol Dependence The Food & Drug Administration has approved medications for the treatment of alcohol dependence which offer treatment options in addition to traditional 12-step and counseling programs. Rethinking Drinking provides key facts about medications for alcohol dependence: * Newer medications can make it easier to quit drinking. * Newer medications don’t

and lots of fast food. “We’d wake up and have a huge breakfast, stop at McDonald’s or Burger King for lunch and dinner,” says Martin. “It was the ‘70s! My parents didn’t think about calories, much less trans fat. And gas was so cheap. It probably costs me more to fill up a tank [of gas] than it cost my parents to feed us the whole trip.” When Martin hits the road with her husband and two children this summer for their first big driving trip, fast food is decidedly not on the menu. “We eat healthy at home. Why change on a road trip? We’ll pack a ton of good food and snacks, and stop at local markets to buy groceries along the way. It should be cheaper, too.” She is not alone. This summer, when millions of families pack up their cars

in the midst of a slumping economy, many will be looking for ways to cut costs. Savings likely won’t be found at the gas pump, as analysts predict a typical summer price jump. But paying for empty calories and saturated fat is not the only option. In lieu of the drive-thru, many families are now bringing food along for the ride. And they’re turning to products like California Innovations’ insulated coolers to keep their meals fresh. Their collapsible coolers have high-density thermal insulation that keeps food and drinks cold for an entire day of driving. And once the contents are gone, they can be collapsed and stored under a seat to save precious cargo space. Many families pack a smaller cooler, like the Zipperless Hardbody, for snacks. With its easy-access lid, drivers

can reach in and grab food or drinks without taking their eyes off the road. Both products have easy-clean, leak-proof linings so they can be wiped down and refilled for the next day of driving. Offered in a variety of styles, sizes and colors, California Innovations coolers give families a new way to eat better and cheaper on the road this summer. When the Martin family takes off for vacation, it will be in an air-conditioned car with plenty of healthy meals and snacks. “I just don’t want my kids getting hooked on fast food,” Martin says. A Helpful Tip for Summer Road Trips

(NewsUSA) - When 39-yearold Tricia Martin was a young girl, summer vacation often meant a three-day drive from the northwest suburbs of Chicago to Denver. It meant sweating in a station wagon without air conditioning, feeling carsick and fighting with her younger sister. It also meant lots

We are experienced in the everyday Gold and Silver market. We operate out of a low overhead office allowing us to eliminate much of the high cost of business, and pass these savings onto you with much higher pay outs. Many people think that if you go to an elegant jewelry store, elaborate road show, or large gold buyer you will get a better offer for your gold. Expensive storefronts, radio and TV advertisements are paid for by You The Customer! Making your gold pay out much less.

Different than all other gold buyers you have seen on TV or in your local area.
means ALL store front gold buyers in the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Big Rapids areas. Call us with any previous offer to see what your gold is actually worth.

“WE WILL PAY YOU $2 MORE PER GRAM THAN THE HIGHEST PAYING GOLD BUYER YOU CAN FIND!” This

GRANT GOLD, SILVER & COIN BUYER REALLY DOES PAY MORE!!!
