You will be able to:
Describe the causes that led to Western Expansion along with its effects on the
West and the United States.
Analyze and discuss the importance of Western Expansion for the United States.

Identify the importance of miners, farmers, ranchers and the transcontinental


railroad to westward expansion and the United States.
Analyze and discuss Native American policiesprimarily during the late 1800s.

1. What is the importance of the American West for the United States?
2. Why did people choose to move west and how successful were these people?
3. What role did miners, farmers, ranchers and the transcontinental railroad play in
settling the west?
4. Identify and describe the three major groups of people that participated in
western expansion?
5. How did agricultural inventions in the 1800s affect farming, farmers, farm prices
and consumers?
6. What impact did western expansion have on Native Americans?

keys are available for Chapter 2 Review, pg.112, questions 1-11 in order to
formatively check your knowledge and understanding.

American West PowerPoint: The American West PowerPoint is available on
the class website in the Online Teachings tab and in the Online
Textbook/Planner.
Classroom Study Groups: Students can choose to work with a group of
students to complete readings, reviews, worksheets, graphic organizers, etc.
Could be level 2 or 3 learning.
Classroom Discussion Groups: Students can choose to work with a group of
students to discuss, evaluate and analyze unit content and concepts.
o This is definitely a level 3, extend and refine knowledge activity. At this
point you should be analyzing and evaluating the content at a deeper
level.
