Get to know them

You can influence students better when they

like you and you have a good relationship with
them.
A cheerful, friendly, but assertive attitude will go
a long way in managing your students to create
a better learning environment.

on connections and relationships. ~PJ

# 2 Use a Clipboard

Great Monitoring Tool

The Clipboard method consists of having

a clipboard with a list of your students. As
you make eye contact with misbehaving
kids, put a mark on their names. They will
know that their misbehavior has been
noticed and consequences are likely to
follow.
You can also use this method to go
around during seatwork and take notice
of misbehaving students. You can stand
near them and make sure they see that
you are using your clipboard.

Easy Self
Starters:
1.Review

2.Quick sum or

3.Quick task to
introduce the
days lesson
Get them started

This strategy involves them to be working already on a

short task (3-5 minutes) even before you enter the
classroom. It could be as simple as answering a
review question, or reading something.
You will have to set a routine for this early so that it
becomes an automatic behavior for the students.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher is
to be able to say, The children are now
working as if I did not exist. ~Montessori

# 4 Move Around

Move Around

The idea behind this strategy is to let the students

know that youre in charge of the classroom. If youre
only going to stand in the front of them, then it will
seem as if youre afraid of them.
Move around constantly around the room during your
lecture and during their seatwork. This strategy works
well with the clipboard method.

automates procedures that otherwise can create
opportunities for students to misbehave.
Routines such as passing of papers, toilet procedures
and reciting in class needs to be established early in
the school year to have a good system in place for the
year.

# 6 Social Cues

Use Social
Reinforcement

This technique involves you highlighting the proper

behavior you want in the class by mentioning to the
class the students who are doing properly specific
behaviors that you want to be done by the rest of the
class.
Youll see that the others will adjust their behavior if
they are not conforming to the standards set by your
model students.

# 7 Be Consistent

Consistency matters

The heart of classroom management is consistency.

You want to reinforce the idea that there are no sacred
cows in the classroom. Everyone will be treated fairly
and respectfully. Make sure your students know clearly
the code of conduct in your classroom and implement
it consistently.
Students love having a fair teacher and will do their
best to behave and meet their expectations on
behavior.
One who smiles rather than rages is always
the strongest. ~Proverb
