Irememberapplyingforteacherscollege,havingbeingflusteredbyemotionsbecauseIwasfinally
abouttodiveintothestartofmycareerasIhavealwayswantedtobecomeateachersinceIwasyoung.
ReceivingthatacceptanceletterstatingCongratulations!wasthestartofanewchapter,andanew
journeyofmylife.WehaveallheardthosecommentsThosewhocantdo,teach,orteachingisabackup
planbecauseitiseasy.Teachingisnoteasy,andIstronglydisagreewithbothofthesestatements.Iknew
teachingwouldbealotofwork,butitbecamedifferentasIstartedtolearnmoreaboutthecurriculum,
hooks,expectations,assessments,classroommanagement,etc.Itisnotsomuchhowmyconceptionsof
teachinghaschanged,butmoreofhowmyknowledgehasexpandedasIstarttoputwhatIhavelearned
thusfarintopractice.
Inweekone,IdescribedhowIbelievedcommunicationwasahugecomponentinteaching(Khan,
2015,para1).HoweverasIcontinuedthroughouttheweeks,Irealizedthereismuchmoretoitthan
communication.Onewordthathasstuckouttomethroughoutthesenineweeksisengagement.Weas
educatorsmustmakesurethatwearealwaysengagingwiththestudents,andthatstudentshavethe
opportunitytoengagewithoneanother.Itwasalsointerestingtoseeinweek2Iexplaineddifferentkindsof
learningenvironments,suchas
learningenvironmentsshouldbestudentcentredsothatstudentscan
understandtheircurrentstateofknowledgeandbeabletoimproveit,aswellasmakedecisions
(Khan,
2015,para8)withoutrealizingthatthiscanrelatetoassessmentaslearningbecausestudentsareableto
highlightwhattheyaredoing,whileprovidingfeedbacktotheirpeers,andmonitoringtheirownprogressasI
learnedlateroninweek3(Khan,2015,para17).Aswestartedtobeintroducedtothelessonplantemplate
inweek3,Ineverrealizedhowmuchworkitwouldbe!Itisamazinghowsometeachersmaketheirlessons
seemflawless,wheninactualityALOTofworkisbeingputintoit.Iknewlookingatthecurriculumwasa
given,butIdidnotknowtherewerespecificexpectations,alongwithlearninggoalsandsuccesscriterias.I
alwaysthoughtyouhadtowritealessonplaninalinearfashion,butaswestartedtowriteourownlesson
planasImentionedinweek3,Irealizedthatwasimpossibletodo!Ihadtokeepjumpingaroundfrom

complex,andrequiresalotoftimeandeffort.Iamexcitedtoseewhatelseisinstoreinthefutureaswe
nearsemesterone,beginourfirstpracticum,andbeginsemestertwointhenewyear!
