A force of 100 N acting horizontally to the right is to be

combined with another one of 50 N acting upward and to
the right at an angle of 15o with the vertical. Determine the
magnitude of the resultant force.

MECHANICS 1

Three forces of 1050 lbs, 700 lbs, and 500 lbs are acting
upon a small boat on a lake. The first force acts due south,
the second force acts due west and the third acts 60o west of
south. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force.

A 120-kg mail bag hangs by a vertical rope 3.5 m long. A

postal worker then displaces the bag to a position 2 m
sideways from its original position, always keeping the rope
taut. What horizontal force is necessary to hold the bag in
the new position?

A 30-lb block is pulled at constant speed up a frictionless

inclined plane by a weight of 10 lbs hanging from a cord
attached to the block and passing over a frictionless pulley
at the top of the plane. Determine the normal force exerted
on the block by the plane.

A 1000-lb weight is suspended from a wooden boom which

has a weight of 200 lbs. the boom is supported by a cable
at one end inclined 40o from the boom. Determine the force
exerted by the boom on the wall.

uniform speed by means of a rope that makes an angle of
30o above the horizontal. If the tension in the rope is 100 lbs,
what is the coefficient of friction?

A 10-lb block is placed in a plane inclined from the

horizontal. Determine the magnitude of the horizontal force P
required to prevent the block from sliding down the plane if
the coefficient of friction between the block and the plane is
0.15.

friction is 0.20, what is the value of the force P applied
horizontally to keep the block moving up the plane.

N in pan with a force of 10 N. Take = 0.20.
