PROCESS
Introduction:
1. Bring the group together in the computer lab and center yourself around the smartboard. Explain
to students that we will be talking about comic books and how there is different types of comic
books.
Have student brainstorm different types of comic books/comic characters that they know. Use the
PowerPoint as a guide for the discussion. Use the chart paper to write down ideas that may be
important for students when they are creating their comic
Ask guiding questions to gauge discussion such as
What is a comic?
What kind of characters do we see in a comic book?
Do people talk in comic books?
What kind of words would you see in comic books?
Do we see a lot of words in comics?
How can we tell what is happening in a comic?
At the bottom of a comic, there is some writing, its called a caption,
What do you think the author would write in the caption?

Demonstrate
The teacher will demonstrate how to use the comic creation tool. The teacher will explain all the steps
on how to create a comic and go step by step to show how the process works. This will all be done on
the smartboard so students are able to ask questions and visualize how the software works.
The teacher will show the template and show the students how the template works. First they must
choose a character, a landscape, and props all from a list. Then the students will create a 3 panel comic
strip with their characters and on the planning sheet they will include any dialogue and captions that
will be in their comic.
Once the teacher makes an example template, the teacher will open the software and create the comic
based on their plan.

Sharing with back to back game:

Back to back game
The teacher will stand up and explain that we are about to play a game. The teacher will then model
the game for the students. The rules are the game you walk around the class, without touching people
or things or talking. When the music stops you quietly go back to back to somebody. Once you hear a
clap you turn around and share your comic with your partner.
We will be using these comic strips in future lessons.

Teacher self-reflection:
What would I change about this lesson?

What worked well?
