Pentecost Sunday

Dreams and Visions
Thus says the Lord: I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall see visions. The coming of the Spirit should fill us with dreams and visions of a better world. Let us dream in the Spirit of a classless society in which all people are regarded and treated as equals. Let us dream in the Spirit of a nonviolent world in which there is no war, no terrorist attacks on innocent people, no murder, and no death penalty. Let us dream in the Spirit of a world of economic justice in which all people have their basic needs met, and no one lives in poverty, hunger, or homelessness. Let us dream in the Spirit of a world of love, forgiveness, and service. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth. May the Spirit of God guide us to end the suffering we have brought on ourselves and unite the faces and nations on earth to proclaim your glory.
Gerald Darring

“The People of God believes that it is led by the Spirit of the Lord, who fills the earth. Motivated by this faith, it labors to decipher authentic signs of God’s presence and purpose in the happenings, needs, and desires in which this People has a part along with other men of our age. For faith throws a new light on everything, manifests God’s design for man’s total vocation, and thus directs the mind to solutions which are fully human.” Vatican II, Constitution on the Church in the Modern World (1965) 11

Some καιρός / kairos thoughts…
καιρός / kairos—Greek—time—viewed as an occasion rather than an extent

we are part of all that has no boundary or limit as Genesis hints when saying we are made in His image—so perhaps will never be satisfied with anything other than embracing all

“Holy Spirit, the Lord and life-giver.” These words are in the Creed. Today we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit; he came to bestow a share in divine life upon God’s chosen and covenanted people. There is sound, wind and fiery light as signs of the gift. People experience the reversal of the fall of Babel. Everyone hears in his or her own language the Apostles speaking. They speak about the marvels of God. The Spirit is given to each for a good purpose— building up Christ’s body. Veni Creator Spiritus!
